GRU is looking for motivated individuals to work in the Water and Wastewater Treatment Operations division to perform skilled technical work to install, calibrate, adjust, troubleshoot and repair various types of water/wastewater plant electrical, electronic, computer controls, digital instruments and controls, and maintain plant SCADA systems. This job may be filled as a Water Wastewater ICE Technician Apprentice or Water Wastewater ICE Technician.
Apprentice & Technician: A Class A CDL with Tanker endorsement is required, but candidates may obtain it within six (6) months of hire. GRU will provide training if hired.
Technician: A valid Journey Level Electrical License
This position may be underfilled as an ICE Technician Apprentice while starting in our Progression-Through-Training Program, with requirements to progress to Water Wastewater ICE Technician.
Candidates hired must complete GRU Progression-Through-Training Program (PTTP) requirements for this position.

Highly skilled journey-level technical, electrical, electronic and mechanical work installing, calibrating, and maintaining water/wastewater electrical, electronic, digital, pneumatic, hydraulic and computer controlled instrumentation/controls equipment and systems.
CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS

ELECTRICAL – Installs, calibrates, adjusts, troubleshoots and repairs various types of water/wastewater plant electrical, electronic, computer controls, digital instruments and controls, including, but not limited to: water systems controls, water treatment and processing systems, and environmental monitoring and control equipment, programmable logic controllers, radio telemetry system, AC & DC variable frequency drives, AC & DC motors and controls, switchgear containing voltages ranging from three phase 120/208 AC, 277/480 AC to 4160 AC and 120vdc, uninterruptible power system (UPS) and associated battery banks, fixed battery charger systems, electrical hoists, soft start controllers, Square D power logic monitoring system, pneumatic controls, interior and exterior lighting, transfer switch, lighting and power distribution panels, power transformers, control transformers, emergency lighting, air compressors, maintenance shop fixed equipment, oil accumulator, lime slakers, vacuum priming system, CO2 vessels, chlorine evaporators, sludge pump actuators, chlorine scrubber system and vacuum filter press.
INSTRUMENTATION – Performs quarterly and annual calibrations and maintenance on various equipment such as: flow meters, pressure transmitters, portable flow meters, level probes, level controllers, pressure switches, pressure gauges, Limitorque and Rexa valve position controllers, chlorinators, Moore controllers, chlorine analyzers, turbidimeters, fluoride feeders, v-notch chlorinators, chlorine cylinder scales, Halogen chlorine valves, pH analyzer, Allen Bradley PLC’s, and plant video surveillance equipment.
Works with and programs complex computer control systems including but not limited to: Programmable logic controllers (PLCs), SCADA Systems and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs). Works with computer networking.
Uses test equipment including, but not limited to: voltmeters, ohmmeters (both analog and digital), ammeters, phase rotation meter, meggers, oscilloscopes, watt meters, loop calibrators, portable non-contact thermometers, 375 Hart Communicator, non-contact high voltage detector, portable flow meter and laptop computer.
Installs, troubleshoots and maintains equipment working from blueprints, sketches and manufacturer’s instructions.
Works safely on assigned systems and equipment with voltages up to and including 4160 AC.
Assists in planning and scheduling maintenance and prepares detailed records and reports in a timely manner.
Observes and adheres to proper lockout/tagout of plant equipment and systems in accordance with clearance procedures, policies, and practices.
Complies with information provided on Material Safety Data Sheets for all products; handling and storing items properly.
Attends training courses and studies independently to learn electrical, electronic, instrumentation and controls operation and maintenance requirements of water/wastewater plant facilities and related support equipment.
Completes established training objectives for craft area assigned to journey level.
Provides training and instruction to subordinate personnel and advises management of level of job knowledge, skills, and abilities of personnel in training.

Works closely with GRU engineers and outside contracted engineers on design work and installation of new plant equipment and projects.

May transport, mix, handle or use hazardous materials (other than cans of gasoline, batteries, pumping fuel or access to normal janitorial cleaning materials) or may be responsible for facilities or equipment carrying current, fluids or gas that could endanger the public or other employees.
May be required to train and perform duties in emergency egress, accidental spill incidents and other safety-related emergencies.

Minimum Requirements
Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma, four years experience with electrical, instrument and controls technology, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Where applicable completion of all requirements as established in progression-through-training program(s) for Water/Wastewater Plant Electrical, Instrument and Controls Technician may be required.
