When Assigned to Park and Recreation
Supervises detail of 4-6 inmates assigned by Correctional Institute to perform park maintenance duties to include: mowing/trimming grass with power equipment, landscape installation and care, moving/unloading furniture and/or materials, litter control, cleaning/preparation of facilities and amenities, janitorial duties, painting, carpentry, plumbing tasks. Maintains control of inmates assigned to Detail under Correctional Institute Policies and Procedures and insures the safety and security of the public. Performs other related duties as required. Note: When inmates are not available for assignment, employee will perform Parks maintenance duties as assigned by Supervisors.
When Assigned to Public Works
Supervises detail of 2-10 inmates assigned by Correctional Institute to perform right of way, and facilities maintenance duties throughout the City of Gainesville. Required duties include: litter control, mowing/trimming grass with power equipment, trimming trees and other vegetation, spraying of herbicide, moving/unloading materials, general facility maintenance, and other duties as assigned. Maintains control of inmates assigned to Detail under Correctional Institute Policies and Procedures and insures the safety and security of the public. Performs other related duties as required. Note: When inmates are not available for assignment, employee will perform Public Works department maintenance duties as assigned by supervisors. When Assigned to Park and Recreation
Oversees Inmate Detail engaged in the daily maintenance of Park grounds to include mowing, edging, trimming trees and hedges, maintaining landscape beds, painting signs and buildings, picking up trash, cleaning restrooms and pavilions and general maintenance of facilities.
Oversees Inmate Detail assisting Division employees engaged in the daily maintenance of Recreation facilities to include: mowing ball fields, cleaning tennis courts, dragging and lining ball fields, painting the football field, setting up for baseball, softball or football events according to league rules and regulations, repairing playground equipment, cleaning dugouts and bleachers, setting tables and chairs for events, picking up trash and cleaning and replenishing restrooms.
Inventories all supplies and equipment assigned to Inmate Detail including restroom and grounds maintenance supplies to insure adequate supplies are available for use.
Insures storage facilities in assigned area are clean and that all assigned equipment is properly maintained.
Operates tractor, dump truck, various mowers, ground maintenance equipment, light and medium construction equipment and various hand operated power equipment.
Performs general maintenance, carpentry, plumbing and electrical work
Oversees Inmate Detail in the construction and development of park grounds and facilities; hauls dirt, clears trees and brush, builds wooden bridges and park equipment, erects and repairs chain- link fences, etc.
Performs other related duties as required.

High School Diploma or G.E.D.
One (1) year previous experience in corrections and/or maintenance.
Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the minimum level of qualifications stated above.
Licenses and Certifications:
POST Certification – Correctional Officer preferred, but required within six (6) months of hire
Valid Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
CDL Preferred.
