What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Chief Of Police position at City of Gaffney?
Essential job functions and requirements include:
- Under general direction of the Police Chief, second in command.
- Plans, directs, and coordinates police operations. Performs other duties as assigned.
- Coordinates between the police department, outside agencies, and the general public.
- Provides complex administrative support to the Police Chief. Assists in planning, staffing, directing police activities, and administering the budget for the Police Department..
- Is directly responsible for Patrol, and Investigation. Participates in selecting, training, motivating, evaluating, disciplining, and terminating personnel. Conducts performance evaluations.
- Represents the Police Department at various meetings and conferences and speaks before community groups.
- Expected to come up with solutions for operational deficiencies within Police Department.

Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, public administration or related field
- Ten (10) years’ work experience in law enforcement, five (5) of which shall have been in supervisory position; or
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid South Carolina Driver’s License or ability to obtain by DOH
- Current certification with SCCJA or ability to obtain certification within 6 months.
