POSITION OVERVIEW
The Librarian performs a range of professional library services to support the operation, outreach, and educational mission of the Frontenac Public Library. This includes assisting patrons, managing the circulation desk, developing collections, delivering public programs, supporting digital literacy, and maintaining a safe, welcoming, and responsive environment. The position requires strong public service skills, adaptability, and a commitment to community engagement.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
· Provide reference, reader advisory, and general assistance to library patrons
· Perform circulation duties including check-in/check-out, shelving, and patron registration
· Plan, coordinate, and implement library programs for youth and adults
· Assist patrons with public computers, e-resources, and printing/scanning services
· Maintain library materials, including selection input, processing, weeding, and inventory
· Support the maintenance of digital resources, databases, and online catalogs
· Assist with outreach, marketing, and community programming
· Maintain records of library usage, programming attendance, and collection activity
· Enforce library policies and maintain a safe, inclusive environment
· Support the Library Director in special projects as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
· High school diploma or GED
· Strong customer service orientation and interpersonal communication skills
· Proficiency in basic computer applications, office software, and internet use
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff and the public
· Willingness to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Previous experience in a public, school, or academic library
· Familiarity with integrated library systems (ILS) and Kansas eLibrary programs
· Experience developing and implementing public programming for children or adults
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
· Hourly Wage: $12.00 – $17.00/hour, depending on qualifications (DOQ)

WORKING CONDITIONS
The position is performed in a public library setting with moderate noise levels and frequent public contact. Physical requirements include standing, walking, lifting up to 25 pounds, and operating standard office equipment.
