We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Paralegal to support the domestic violence docket at the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court. This role is crucial in assisting victims and aiding prosecutions while maintaining confidentiality and managing administrative tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist victims and maintain confidentiality in all interactions
- Support prosecutions by managing restitution orders and preparing legal documents
- Handle administrative duties such as document preparation, research, and court filings
- Prepare materials, including correspondence, subpoenas, court orders, and memos, ensuring accuracy in spelling, punctuation, format, and grammar
- Prepare and review dockets and case files, including assembling necessary legal documents
- Draft correspondence, orders, notices, and motions for attorney review
- Attend court sessions to provide support to legal staff
- Maintain court and legal staff calendars
- Arrange continuances and ensure trial attorney consents
- Review cases for witness subpoenas and file requests for appropriate witnesses
- Manage inquiries from the public and provide information or refer callers appropriately
- Establish and maintain confidential case files and retrieve necessary materials
- Enter case data into the case management system for tracking purposes
- Maintain proficiency in case management and legal research systems
- Collaborate with other criminal justice and city agencies
- Perform financial management duties, including budgeting and grant administration
- Compile and prepare reports on case handling and program participation
- Operate standard office equipment and organize the work area
- Assist administrative staff with office duties as needed
- Perform other related duties and special projects assigned
- Associate’s degree in paralegal studies or related field
- Three (3) years of experience in a legal office environment, or equivalent education and experience
- Registered or Certified Paralegal preferred
- Ability to follow detailed instructions with some independent judgment
