FIRE DEPARTMENT:
The Fountain Valley Fire Department is committed to providing the highest-quality all-hazard emergency response, fire prevention, education, and emergency medical services to the community's residents and visitors. The Fire Prevention Division serves as Fountain Valley’s proactive shield, dedicated to stopping emergencies before they start. Fire Prevention oversees community safety, emergency preparedness, and code enforcement. By conducting fire inspections, monitoring hazardous materials, and reviewing construction plans for new and existing projects, fire prevention eliminates risks of loss of life, property damage, and environmental damage. This vital work ensures community resilience, proving that the best way to handle a crisis is to prevent it through education, enforcement, and preparation.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
As a Fire Prevention Volunteer, you will perform a wide variety of technical and entry-level administrative tasks in support of the Fire Department. The volunteer will work under the supervision of the Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Marshal, Fire Secretary, and Fire Prevention staff.
Job Overview
- Assist with administrative tasks assigned by Fire Administration staff.
- Observe fire inspections, such as hazardous material and new construction inspections.
- Provide administrative support work, including answering inquiries from the public, on the telephone, and via e-mail.
- Independently conduct surveys and research utilizing Internet searches, City websites, telephone calls, and other means of collecting data and information.
- Assist with reports, summaries, charts, and presentations related to the research and analysis conducted.
- Assist with disaster preparedness and public education programs.
- Assist with special events.
Qualification Guidelines
EDUCATION:
Currently enrolledhave completed coursework in Fire Technology, Fire Science, PublicBusiness Administration,a related field from an accredited collegeuniversity.
EXPERIENCE:
Previous administrative Fire experience is highly desirable.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- older. High School Graduate
- GED.
- Must be willing to volunteer a minimum of 8 hours per week.
- Must live within 30 miles of the City.
- Fire Prevention 1A and 1B
- Fire Tech "core" classes
LICENSE REQUIRED:
Valid California Class "C" Driver's License.
