An Economic Development Coordinator position is available with the City of Fort Worth Economic Development Department in the Business Recruitment and Expansion Division.

The Economic Development Department conducts targeted operations and facilitates strategic investment that help shape the future of Fort Worth and its economy. The incumbent is responsible for implementing strategies that increase Fort Worth’s competitiveness in target industries and promote innovation in key districts.

Primary duties will include identifying and leading projects in coordination with the Fort Worth Economic Development Partnership that deliver value and elevate the profile of Fort Worth, particularly in high-growth and high-value industries; monitoring industry trends; evaluating and leveraging local and regional assets to advance City strategies and to ensure project readiness; developing or administering programs that promote entrepreneurship and innovation; and leading incentives negotiations and approvals for assigned projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Economic and Community Development, Urban and Regional Planning, Urban Studies, or related field
  • Four (4) years of experience in economic/community development, real estate finance, or related field required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Economic and Community Development, Urban and Regional Planning, Urban Studies, or related field
  • Seven years of experience in economic/community development, real estate finance, or related field
  • Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) designation, Economic Development Finance Professional (EDFP) designation or a certificate from the University of Oklahoma Economic Development Institute (OUEDI), or a certificate from the TCU Advanced Economic Development Leadership (AEDL) program
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of economic development, marketing, and financing methods available for economic growth
  • Knowledge of incentive policies, programs, and projects, including tax abatements, Chapter 380 grants, tax increment financing, and similar programs
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects independently.
  • Strong financial analysis skills (demonstrated ability to evaluate gap financing or conduct financial benchmarking, fiscal analysis, or cost-benefit analysis)
  • Established track record or demonstrated capabilities in negotiating high-value/high-profile projects, especially industrial, corporate, or other commercial expansions, or relocations
  • Intermediate or advanced skills in Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, Power Point, and Word
  • Familiarity with Salesforce and with CoStar, Lightcast, Census and Bureau of Labor Statistics databases, and other common economic development data platforms
  • A history of ethical behavior and an understanding of various ethical considerations in economic development

The Economic Development Coordinator Job Responsibilities Include

  • Assist in the development and implementation of programs to encourage the attraction and expansion of new and existing employers within the community
  • Inventory key Fort Worth sites and evaluate site availability, conditions, and readiness
  • Actively engage with existing businesses on growth and expansion opportunities
  • Work alongside staff at the Fort Worth Economic Development Partnership to attract new businesses to Fort Worth
  • Evaluate target industry trends and requirements and create tailored profile and positioning documents of the Fort Worth market
  • Establish relationships with local, regional, and national site consultants, corporate real estate executives, and real estate brokers
  • Manage relationships with accounts in assigned target industries
  • Conduct project analysis, negotiate terms of incentive contracts, and coordinate approval process
  • Develop or support the implementation of programs or partnerships promoting greater levels of entrepreneurship and innovation in Fort Worth
  • Identify and evaluate new or competing policies, programs, and incentives, and advise department management on related local policy
  • Represent the City in meetings with representatives of business and community organizations, governmental agencies, and the public
