This part-time position is scheduled to work an average of twenty-nine (29) hours per week. The employee in this position will be required to work Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional hours will be scheduled, by mutual arrangement, based on the candidate's availability and departmental needs, provided such hours are worked during the Botanical Conservatory's normal hours of operation. Some flexibility may be necessary to accommodate special events, seasonal programming, and other peak operating periods.
What You'll Do
The Clerical II – Conservatory Retail Assistant supports daily operations of the Botanical Conservatory Giftshop by handling clerical tasks, assisting customers, and maintaining inventory and displays. This role ensures smooth retail operations while delivering excellent customer service in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Maintain inventory records, receive and price merchandise, and process invoices and purchase orders
• Organize, replenish, and create visually appealing merchandise displays
• Assist customers, operate the point-of-sale system, and handle transactions, returns, and inquiries
• Support special events and promotions in collaboration with Conservatory staff
• Coordinate with volunteers and part-time staff and contribute to a positive team environment

What You Bring – Education & Experience
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Six months of related retail, clerical, or customer service experience preferred
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Preferred Certifications
• Valid Indiana Driver's License (if operating a City vehicle)
Technical Skills & Knowledge
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Basic math skills and ability to operate point-of-sale systems
• Ability to maintain accurate records and organize inventory
• Attention to detail with merchandising and display presentation
• Ability to multitask and work independently in a fast-paced environment
