Recreation Coordinator – 50 Senior Games

Schedule:March–April 20 hrs/week | May–July up to 40 hrs/week | August–October 20 hrs/week (hours vary based on event schedule)

What You'll Do

Under the direction of the Community Center Manager, you'll plan, organize, and execute the City of Fort Wayne's 50 Senior Games from start to finish. You'll coordinate events, volunteers, venues, logistics, and results while ensuring every participant has a safe, welcoming, and memorable experience. From registration to awards banquet, you help create a season participants look forward to all year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate all Senior Games events, venues, and logistics
  • Recruit, train, and support volunteers and event coordinators
  • Prepare equipment, supplies, registration materials, and participant records
  • Track attendance, scores, and results and compile final reports and evaluations
  • Coordinate marketing materials, ceremonies, awards, and participant communications

What You Bring | Education & Experience

  • Two years post-high school education in Physical Education, Leisure Studies, Recreation, or related field - OR two years experience in recreation programming or event coordination
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community partners
  • Detail-oriented with initiative and a positive, outgoing approach

Preferred Certifications

  • Valid Indiana Driver's License (if operating City vehicle)
  • First Aid and CPR certification within two weeks of hire (provided by City)

Technical Skills & Knowledge

  • Microsoft Office and Teams proficiency
  • Ability to manage schedules, spreadsheets, participant tracking, and event documentation
