Parks Seasonal Laborer
Job Description:
The incumbent under the guidance of the Parks Department Supervisor is responsible for helping to maintain the beauty and integrity of the city parks and several road medians.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Note: All City of Fort Smith positions require the employee to provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees, and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive. Must show cooperation and respect to fellow employees and supervisors at all times.
1. Mow and weed-eat assigned areas on a regular basis.
2. Perform maintenance and repair tasks
3. Operate all related equipment and tools.
4. Ensure park areas are free of trash and debris.
5. Help to maintain flower beds and shrubs.
6. Perform dirt work and weed-eating duties at the cemetery as needed.
7. Regular attendance and timeliness is required.
Qualification Requirements:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience:
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Minimum of one-year general labor work experience in construction or maintenance is preferred but not required.
- Must be proficient in the use of mowing equipment.
Other Skills and Abilities:
The incumbent should possess knowledge of all maintenance equipment and tools. The incumbent must have good verbal communications skills. Problem solving and analytical ability are required to perform the duties of this position. Good communication and interpersonal skills are also required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must frequently stand, walk, talk and hear. Occasionally sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects. The incumbent must also stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, balance or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, color, distance and peripheral vision. Depth perception and the ability to adjust focus are also necessary.
The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds.
