What are the responsibilities and job description for the STREETS EQUIPMENT OPERATOR III position at City of Fort Pierce?
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Demonstrable skill in operating equipment typically used in street and drainage maintenance/construction activities to include, at a minimum, tandem axle dump trucks and wheeled front loaders. In addition, this position requires the operator to demonstrate adequate skills in the operation of three (3) or more of the following equipment types: bulldozer, combination storm sewer cleaner (Vac-Con type), street sweeper, telescopic excavator (Gradall type), dragline, motor grader, or front loader/backhoe combination. Employee may work alone or with others in the performance of assigned tasks.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Operates equipment of various types in performing maintenance and construction tasks.
- Clean and reprofiles swales, ditches and canals.
- Participates in installing and/or repairing storm drainage systems and structures, sidewalks, driveways, other concrete slabs, bollard systems, guardrails, and other work typical to public works operations.
- Performs routine cleaning and preventive maintenance on equipment operated.
- Performs manual labor functions as found in the Maintenance Worker job descriptions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of principles and methods of operating medium and heavy construction type equipment.
- Knowledge of practices, methods and materials used in public works construction and maintenance activities.
- Knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to safety and operation of equipment.
- Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment and detect problems with equipment.
- Ability to perform manual work.
- Ability to follow and understand written and oral instructions.
- Skill in cleaning and maintaining equipment.
- Skill in operating heavy construction equipment.
- Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Three (3) years' experience in medium/heavy equipment operation and on the road driving.
(A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:
- Valid Class "B" Commercial Florida Drivers License is a minimum qualification but a Class "A"
- Commercial Florida Drivers License is preferred.
