Under the general direction of the designated supervisor, position is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operational activities of facilities, programs, events, and personnel. Plan, develop and implement program activities and special events.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the City’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • As appropriate to facility, coordinate city services for special events held at city facilities.
  • Plan, develop, implement, and coordinate recreational/educational activities.
  • Book facilities for public or private events to generate revenue.
  • Maintain revenue and attendance reports to track revenue and facility usage.
  • Responsible for pursuing grant and sponsorship opportunities.
  • This position requires regular and reliable attendance and the employee’s physical presence at the workplace.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

When Assigned To STARS And PAL

  • Plan, develop and implement STARS educational program activities.
  • Develop and plan activities that incorporate program goals into the daily routine of STARS.
  • Provide staff and participants with appropriate leadership during program.
  • Communicate with Parents through meetings and conferences.
  • Coordinate with School Districts on curriculum base activities.
  • Assist S.T.A.R.S. management with the application of grant funding; maintaining responsibility to deliver grant outcomes and utilize methods with which to report on those outcomes at specified reporting periods.
  • Keep aligned of teen trends in the nation, state and community regarding what affects teens and their lives.
  • Stay connected with teen coalitions and other organizations that serve teens, forming and maintaining relationships that serve the City’s Recreational programs.
  • Conduct periodic self-assessment and community assessments/surveys to determine the needs of teens.

Minimum Requirements

When assigned to Stars/Skatium/Riverside/Policed Athletic League:

  • Associates degree in Recreation Administration, Business Administration, Education, or related field.
  • Three years’ experience in recreation administration, education, public relations, coordination of programs and interaction with youth in structured programming or related work; and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, may be substituted for the degree.
  • Experience with program development and evaluation with understanding of progressive success of those programs
  • Ability to motivate and encourage students in low academic achievement to their highest ability and measure success through periodic assessment
  • Leadership, supervision, and management experience preferred in a youth services, family support or K-12 educational setting.
  • Mandatory Drug/Alcohol Testing required.
  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
  • When assigned to working with Youth, must meet the Department of Children and Families (DCF) requirements and inspections.

  • Lifting – raising objects from lower to higher position, moving objects side to side, using upper extremities, back.
  • Mental Acuity – ability to make rational decisions through sound logic, deductive reasoning.
  • Visual Acuity 3 - determine accuracy, neatness, observe facilities/structures.
  • Walking - on foot to accomplish tasks, long distances, or site to site.

Work Performed Is Primarily

  • Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • May be required to work hours other than the regular schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Contact with internal and external customers, vendors, outside agencies and the general public.
  • Occasionally exposed to adverse weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions.
