Under the general supervision of the designated supervisor, this position is responsible for coordinating the maintenance and repair of all equipment necessary to operate the Water or Wastewater Treatment Facilities on a continuous basis (24 hours per day, 7 days per week).

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the City’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Responsibilities And Reporting During An Emergency Situation

Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared emergency. Depending on the nature of the emergency, this may require working around the clock for several days on short notice.

Non Essential Employees will not be required to work during a declared emergency. The employee’s Department Head will determine when the employee will be required to work.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Oversee work on all mechanical and electrical equipment at the assigned treatment facility.
  • Ensure equipment is repaired in a timely and cost effective manner.
  • Assign work to mechanics to prevent mechanical failures.
  • Assign work to electricians to prevent electrical failures.
  • Diagnose equipment failures; acquire parts, assigns repair work and follow-up.
  • Responsible for all parts research, purchase requests and follow-up.
  • Track and control all mechanical and electrical work orders.
  • Assign and check preventative maintenance reports.
  • Assist in budget preparation.
  • Provide payroll information to Plant supervisors.
  • Record and investigate any accident involving maintenance personnel.
  • Prepare and maintain necessary written documentation and provide written reports.
  • Respond to emergencies any time of day or night.
  • Work closely with Superintendent and Plant Supervisor to prioritize assigned tasks.
  • May require to operate a motor vehicle to perform assigned tasks
  • This position requires regular and reliable attendance and the employee’s physical presence at the workplace
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Must possess general knowledge of SCADA/HMI systems.
  • Skill in time management and organization
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to performing under frequent deadlines and/or in response to emergencies.
  • Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and make decisions in accordance with established laws, regulations, ordinances, departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ability to operate necessary equipment, including but not limited to a computer, printer, copier, facsimile machine, scanner, and calculator

Minimum Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Four years’ experience in related field with a minimum of two years of progressively responsible supervisory experience and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) Mandatory Drug/Alcohol Testing required.
  • A valid Florida Drivers’ License with an acceptable drivers record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A valid Class “B” Florida Commercial Driver’s License
  • Experience with SCADA/HMI systems.

  • Visual Acuity 5 -close acuity for inspection of small defects, machines, use measurement devices, or fabricate parts.
  • Walking - on foot to accomplish tasks, long distances, or site to site.

Work Performed Is Primarily

  • Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • May be required to work hours other than the regular schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Contact with internal and external customers, vendors, outside agencies and the general public.
  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; and vibration. Risk of electrical shock.
