This is a grant funded, temporary position

Assist the Dockmaster with operations and maintenance of City of Fort Lauderdale Marinas. Works effectively with the public, marina patrols and others.

This is a temporary full - time position in accordance with City of Fort Lauderdale Policy and Standards Manual. This position is At-Will and is not covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement or the Personnel Rules.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation.   • Assigns berths, makes dockage reservations, executes dockage agreements and collects dockage payments
  • Assists Dockmaster with special City events such as powerboat race, boat parade, etc.
  • Enters and records customer information and dockage payments into marina software program; transports EOD paperwork between marina locations
  • Records transient dockage reservations, prepares reports and assigns berths or moorings to boat owners
  • Oversees the execution of dockage payments
  • Answers phone and maintains office records
  • Monitors radio in absence of dock master; responds to inquiries from boaters, base station, dock masters and Marine patrol
  • Operates a City vehicle and boat to patrol marine facilities to clear debris, prevent loitering, theft, vandalism and other harmful acts; reports such acts to proper authorities
  • Ensures proper care and safety to boating customers and their property while securing and releasing dock lines during the arrival and departure from marina dock
  • Keeps the marina dock clear of debris, and removes and disposes of refuse, waste oil and other debris in accordance with environmental and OSHA regulations
  • May perform routine maintenance on Dockmaster's boat including the use of small power tools, washing, waxing and fueling
  • Performs related work as required

JOB REQUIREMENTS, PREFERENCES & WORK ENVIRONMENT

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Have graduated from a standard high school or trade school or vocational school or possess a G.E.D. certificate from a recognized issuing agency
  • One (1) year boating or marina experience.
  • Possess a Boating Safety Course Certification from the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary or the United States Power Squadrons or must obtain certification within six (6) months from date of hire.
  • Must be able to swim
  • Possess or be able to obtain a valid State of Florida driver's license within 30 days after hire
As public servants, employees may be required to work immediately before, during, and/or after an emergency. All employees must be available and able to work assigned shifts as determined by their Department Heads.

PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The position involves medium physical demands, such as exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Ability to lift, stoop, bend, crouch, climb and kneel in performing a variety of job-related tasks.
