Job Summary

The City of Fort Collins is seeking an experienced Director of Electric Distribution to oversee the safe and efficient construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of high-voltage electric distribution infrastructure throughout the city. This role is responsible for ensuring the reliability of critical electrical assets while prioritizing safety in all operational activities. Additionally, the position involves managing various operational crews, overseeing the Electric Lineworker Apprentice Program, and overseeing comprehensive safety training to uphold the highest industry standards.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.

  • Responsible for the management and supervision of the overall electric distribution system, including operations and maintenance, value-added service options and construction of major electric facilities.
  • Participates as an active member of the Utilities Planning Team.
  • Initiates and supports implementation and marketing of new products and services.
  • Responsible for the safety of line personnel working in close proximity to high voltage distribution lines and equipment.
  • Works with Electrical Engineering and Operations & Technology Directors in developing short term and long range plans and Light & Power’s annual budget based on the goals and growth objectives of the Service Area.
  • Ensures consistency with staff responsible for enforcing rules and regulations, government laws, city ordinances or codes.
  • Coordinates work activities of the L&P Electric Field Services Department with other City departments or divisions as needed in order to sustain or enhance service levels to the public.
  • Plans and develops a capital budget and operations and maintenance budget for the Electric Field Services Department.
  • Develops budget specifications, and initiates purchase requisitions for heavy equipment and vehicles for Light & Power.
  • Interprets company policies and methods.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates departmental performance, operating policies, and procedures.

High School Diploma or GED High School diploma or GED, 2 years formal education beyond high school

Experience Requirements

  • Ten (10) years experience, including five as a supervisor in electric utility construction and operations.
