What are the responsibilities and job description for the ASSISTANT PARKS & RECREATION COORDINATOR (Part Time) position at City of Forest Park?
This is a Permanent Part time position working 25-29 hours per week. The Assistant Recreation Coordinator will assist the Recreation Coordinator in planning, organizing, and implementing recreation programs, primarily focusing on youth sports. This position plays a vital role in fostering a positive and inclusive environment that encourages skill development, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles among the youth of Forest Park. This person will be required to work nights and weekends when necessary. 1. Assist in planning, promoting, and executing youth sports programs, leagues, and events.
2. Work collaboratively to ensure programs align with community needs and department goals.
3. Support efforts to recruit and manage volunteer coaches and officials for youth sports.
4. Serve as a point of contact for leagues, coaches, parents, participants, and volunteers, ensuring clear communication and addressing concerns promptly.
5. Foster a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for all participants.
6. Promote youth sports programs through social media, flyers, and community outreach.
7. Maintain accurate records for participant registration, scheduling, and equipment inventory.
8. Assist with budget tracking and reporting for youth sports programs.
9. Ensure compliance with safety guidelines and policies during all activities.
10. Help prepare and maintain sports facilities, fields, and equipment.
11. Coordinate scheduling of facilities to ensure smooth program operations.
12. Partner with local schools, businesses, and organizations to enhance youth sports opportunities.
13. Suggest new ideas and initiatives to improve and expand the scope of programs offered.
14. Types correspondence, reports, forms, press releases, flyers, promotional materials and other assigned materials utilizing word process, spreadsheet, data base, and desktop publishing software.
15. Provides back-up assistance to the front reception office staff in various duties on an as needed basis.
16. Greets visitors and provides superior customer service in all capacities including answering and responding promptly to telephone calls and emails in a courteous and professional manner.
17. Assists with processing of all outgoing mail and distribution of all incoming mail as needed.
18. Performs other duties as assigned. 1. Knowledge of recreation principles and program development of all ages, safety principles including first aid, CPR, rules and skills that apply to a variety of games, sports and instructional activities, and field maintenance.
2. Ability to communicate and work effectively with other employees, community organizations, and citizens of all ages.
3. Able to be a self-starter, assertive; able to work with general direction; able to handle complex tasks and duties concurrently; able to organize, direct, and motivate volunteers.
4. Ability to receive direction from superiors and then work effectively on assigned tasks and continually report progress to the immediate supervisor.1. Associate's degree in Recreation, Sports Management, Education, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
2. Experience working with youth or organizing sports programs preferred.
3. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
4. Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by program schedules.
5. Passion for youth development and community engagement.
6. High School graduate or equivalent plus two years recreation/senior programming experience in a municipal or similar setting or other equivalent combination of training and experience.
7. Ability to lift and carry sports equipment (up to 50 lbs).
8. Willingness to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions.

Salary : $45,760 - $52,000
