JOB OBJECTIVES
To perform a variety of duties in support of the following utility programs; to receive, stock, monitor, and deliver materials and supplies; to monitor and track active work orders; to perform light maintenance on tools, vehicles and equipment; to assist the line crews and meter readers as required; conduct conservation audits and inspections; to perform a variety of maintenance tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility; and to conduct locates on underground primary and secondary power lines.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from the Power Services Manager.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The following tasks are typical for positions in this classification. Any single position may not perform all of these tasks and/or may perform similar related tasks not listed here:
- Monitor work orders and inventory levels; within established guidelines, order parts and supplies; receive, check, store and warehouse supplies; deliver materials and tools to work sites.
- Provide assistance to line crews in the field; perform flagging duties; maintain and clean limbs and brush from signs, lights and poles.
- Read and record residential and commercial electric and water meters using hand-held and vehicle mounted computerized devices as needed; connect and disconnect meters for new service or for non-payment of service; install new meters as required.
- Perform light maintenance on tools, vehicles and equipment; coordinate and arrange for more complex repair work to be undertaken by other City or vendor staff.
- Repair and maintain Light and Power Department facilities and grounds; perform minor building repairs; coordinate more extensive building repair requirements; mow, trim and edge lawn areas; prune and trim shrubs; clear pathways.
- Provide assistance with conducting conservation audits and inspections.
- Maintain warehouse and work areas in a neat and safe manner.
- Locate and mark primary and secondary power lines; record results.
- Contribute to a positive work environment.
- Maintain regular, predictable attendance and punctuality.
- Perform other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification.

Education and Experience GuidelinesAny combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
Any combination or work experience equivalent to one year of construction, building and equipment repair and maintenance, and/or light mechanical experience. Electric Utility experience preferred.
Certification:
Flagging certification preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Environment: Incumbents work in a warehouse and field environment and are exposed to inclement weather conditions, noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases and heavy construction equipment. Incumbents often travel from work site to work site.
Mobility: Incumbents in this classification require sufficient mobility to perform light, moderate and heavy lifting up to 50 lbs.; must be able to walk, stand or sit for prolonged periods of time. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter and retrieve data using a computer keyboard and to operate motorized equipment and vehicles. Positions in this classification frequently bend, stoop, kneel and crawl in the daily operations of their work.
Vision, Hearing & Communication: Vision sufficient to distinguish colors, read printed documents, computer screens and operate assigned machinery and equipment. Hearing and speech sufficient to communicate in person and over mobile devices and desk telephones.
Selection Process
