The Pool Manager has overall responsibility for safety at the pool, as well as managerial, administrative, facility, aquatic, communications, and leadership duties, including Managerial/ administrative. Manage and oversee lifeguards: Plan and organize workloads and staff assignments for lifeguards; Meet regularly with staff; Advise and coach lifeguards and evaluate them at the middle and end of the season; Monitor time sheets and prepare payroll reports. Prepare the pool for opening and closing each season. Assist with daily maintenance of the pool and bathhouse/ restroom facility, including making recommendations for repairs and improvement, and communicating with the Recreation Supervisor on aquatic issues. Instill attention to safety with lifeguards as well as with pool members and guests; enforce safety at the pool among both staff and members. Administer First Aid, CPR, emergency, and other safety procedures, as required. Communicate regularly with Recreation Supervisor, staff, facility/maintenance, swim lessons, and patron issues. Prepare the facility for fun events such as swimming competitions/games, pool parties, and other special events. Create a safe and fun atmosphere for staff and members.Supervision of every aspect of pool operations and maintenance specifically to:
  1. Assign and supervise the work of the employees of the pool.
  2. Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of each employee and make reports to the Recreation Supervisor.
  3. Post a work schedule for pool employees.
  4. If there are any changes made to the work schedule, the Pool Manager is to notify the Recreation Supervisor as soon as possible
  5. Provide and lead regular training and practice for pool employees in -- Pool Equipment and Operation, Accident and Emergency Procedures, First Aid (including CPR), Water Safety, Lifesaving, Patron Relations, Employee Relations, and Community Relations.
  6. Conduct Danger and Emergency drills during each monthly staff meeting with all staff members present. (Document and submit to Recreation Supervisor)
  7. Work as a Lifeguard.
  8. Ensure that water is chemically balanced and in optimum condition.
  9. Ensure that all machinery and equipment are operating properly.
  10. Take charge of emergency situations.
  11. Ensure that all pool personnel is familiar with the Handbook.
  12. Supervises concession stand and gate operations, ensures money is accurate, and confirms pool attendants have the necessary supplies and support for daily opening and closing.
  13. Ensure that all forms, reports, and receipts are accurately kept.
  14. Assist pool employees in handling situations with which they have difficulties.
  15. Assist the Swim Team Coach in every way possible to ensure the success of the Swim Team. The manager and Senior Guard are expected to maintain efficiency on the deck at all times. When any employee has failed to report to work within five minutes of his/her scheduled work time, the Pool Manager or Senior Guard should report this infraction to the Supervisor.
  16. Report to the Supervisor when an employee reports he/she will be late to work or absent. Performing other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
  1. Current certification in American Red Cross CPR and First Aid for the Professional Rescuer.
  2. Current Lifeguard certification.
  3. Minimum of two years' experience as a Lifeguard of a public or private pool or equivalent setting.
  1. Swimming and rescue skills (as required by the American Red Cross Lifeguard Course).
  2. Proper use of lifesaving equipment.
  3. First aid skills.
  4. CPR skill Knowledge and skills in the areas of public relations.
  5. Knowledge in the following areas: Accident/injury prevention, Patron and facility surveillance, Emergency preparedness, Rescue, Spinal injury management, and Emergency action planning as presented in the American Red Cross Lifeguard Course.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  7. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees.
  8. Knowledge of community resources and other related organizations.
  9. Ability to report to work on time and notify the appropriate individual in advance if unable to work.
  10. Ability to work flexible hours with holiday and weekend work required.
  11. Ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
  12. Ability to concentrate and accomplish tasks despite interruptions.
  13. Ability to count money and make the accurate change.
  14. Must be able to read and follow directions.

Supervision:
General supervision by the Recreation Supervisor.

Physical Demands (with or without accommodations):
  1. Ability to swim well and pass regular swim test during lifeguard in-service meetings.
  2. Prolong standing and sitting.
  3. Stands, walks, bends, climbs, stoops, pushes, pulls, lifts, and carries recreational supplies and pool equipment.
  4. Must be able to hear and see both up and close and at a distance.
  5. Ability to actively participate in recreational aquatics programs for children, adults, and seniors.
  6. Must be able to work in extreme heat.

Equipment/Tools Used:
First aid supplies and Lifeguard safety equipment, Water rescue equipment, Test kits used to check chemicals in water, Public address system, Computer, and Calculator.
