Head Lifeguard Part Time

The head lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of pool patrons. This includes supervision and education of lifeguards, patrons, facility maintenance, and administration of health care. The head lifeguard will have additional duties in absence of the pool manager.

1. Prevent injuries by eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors.
2. Enforce facility rules and regulations.
3. Recognize and respond effectively in all emergencies.
4. Administer first aid and CPR in an emergency.
5. Inform other lifeguards and facility staff when more help or equipment is needed.
6. Educate patrons about rules and regulations.
7. Complete required records and reports on schedule and submit them to the proper authority or office.
8. Responsible for clean-up of pool, locker room facility, and storage area.
9. Conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times.
10. Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisors.
11. Ensure the lifeguard staff is compliant with all rules, policies, and rescue procedures.
12. Testing of chemicals when needed.
13. Maintains daily operations if the manger is not on duty.
14. Assist or coordinate daily lifeguard training.

1. Must possess a current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or equivalent.
2. Must possess a current American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certificate or equivalent.
3. Minimum of one year of lifeguard experience.

1. Swimming and rescue skills (as required by the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course).
2. Proper use of specific lifesaving equipment.
3. First Aids skills.
4. CPR skills (including adult, child, and infant, as well as the use of resuscitation and bag valve masks).
5. Knowledge and skills in the areas of public relations, lifeguard responsibilities, accident/injury prevention, patron and facility surveillance, emergency preparedness, rescue skills, first aid procedures, spinal injury management, and emergency action planning as presented in the American Red Cross Lifeguard course.

Physical Demand (With or Without Reasonable Accommodation): Ability to swim, hear and see both close and distant, standing, sitting, shouting, waving arms, running in sand and water, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, and feeling.

Equipment/Tools Used: First aid supplies and safety equipment. Test kits used to check chemicals in water. Public address system.
