Under the supervision of the Director of the Department of Public Works the Deputy DPW Director is responsible for performing executive level administration, supervisory and technical work in directing the activities of a full-service public works department which includes transportation, sanitation, and utilities/water services.1.Plans, organizes and directs all aspects of departmental operations ensuring safety, quality and efficiency. Develops, recommends and implements departmental policies and procedures, internal controls, and departmental goals and objectives in accordance with departmental needs, legal requirements and the city’s overall strategic plan.
2.Evaluate the need for and develop plans, schedules and cost estimates for long-range capital improvement programs and maintenance of public facilities.
3.Assists the Public Works Department in meetings with public officials, other public agencies and civic groups to coordinate, develop and implement projects and programs.
4.Assists with maintaining departmental awareness of state-of-the-art developments in management and fields of Public Works operations
5.Assists with monitoring development related to designated services areas, evaluates their impact on City operations and implements policy and procedure improvements.
6.Assists  with  monitoring  existing  methods  and  procedures,  making  recommendations  for  increased efficiencies and cost effectiveness.
7.Assists with ensuring that utility systems and facilities meet State and EPA requirements.
8.Resolves citizen complaints regarding delivery of departmental services.
9.Supervises personnel and assists with performance and oversees training and professional development.
10.Selects and procures equipment and materials as needed in accordance with capital improvement plans and approved budgets.
11.Prepares and maintains appropriate records and reports as required.
12.Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, streamline work processes and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service.
13.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, subordinates, city officials, company representatives and regulatory agencies.  
14.Performs other duties as determined by the City Administrator.


Associates degree in STEM (Science, Technical, and Engineering or Math) or closely related field, and seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in the area of public works, utilities engineering AND two (2) years in an administrative/supervisory capacity. 

OR

Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technical, and Engineering or Math) or closely related field, and five (5) to seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in the area of public works, utilities engineering AND at least one (1) year in an administrative/supervisory capacity.

OR

High School Diploma or Equivalent AND a minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressively years of progressively responsible experience in the area of public works, utilities engineering and at least one (1) year in an administrative/supervisory capacity
