Job Overview
The Cybersecurity Engineer supports the Information Systems Manager by implementing and enforcing the City’s cybersecurity program, monitoring systems, managing vulnerabilities, responding to incidents, and maintaining security policies. They work with IT staff and departments to keep City technology secure, compliant, and aligned with best practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitors security dashboards, system logs, firewall alerts, network activity, and other data sources for signs of malicious or suspicious behavior.
  • Reviews security bulletins and vulnerability advisories to determine relevance to City systems and infrastructure.
  • Tracks firmware versions, software patch levels, and system configurations to quickly assess exposure to newly released threats.
  • Leads investigations and response actions related to security incidents, alerts, or user-reported concerns (e.g., phishing, malicious links, credential disclosure).
  • Develops, maintains, and facilitates testing of the City’s Incident Response Plan
  • Conducts regular audits of system logs, firewall logs, authentication logs, and access activity to identify anomalies or policy violations
  • Supports compliance-related audits (e.g., CJIS, public records, regulatory cybersecurity requirements)
  • Performs internal and external vulnerability scans on a scheduled basis
  • Manages patch deployment for City-managed desktops, laptops, and tablets through the Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) system
  • Maintains, reviews, and updates security configurations and policy settings within the City’s protective software platforms (e.g., antivirus, endpoint protection, threat detection tools), ensuring they reflect current best practices, emerging threats, and operational needs
  • Performs periodic audits of these configurations and policies to verify proper enforcement and effectiveness
  • Administers the City’s cybersecurity awareness program, including phishing simulations and periodic training
  • Provides guidance to staff on best practices such as password hygiene, email security, safe browsing, and social engineering prevention
  • Ensures alignment with applicable frameworks and regulations including NIST, CJIS requirements, and Ohio HB 96 cybersecurity mandates
  • Performs other duties as required.

Licenses, Certifications and Education

At least one of the following network administration certifications is required for this position:

  • CompTIA Security
  • CompTIA CySA
  • ISC2 CC (Certified in Cybersecurity)
  • Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)
  • GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC)

AND/OR

  • Associate’s degree or higher in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.09 - $50.15 per hour
