Overview
The Police Department Computer Support Technician is responsible for providing comprehensive IT support to the City of Findlay Police Department. This position will serve as the primary technical resource for the department, supporting both software and hardware systems, including public safety applications, networks, and end-user devices. The role bridges the gap between general city IT support and the specialized needs of law enforcement technology. While primarily focused on the Police Department, this position may assist other City departments as time and resources permit.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Software Support & Administration:
- Administer all Police Department-specific software, including but not limited to:
- Body-Worn Camera (BWC) management systems
- Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD)
- Records Management Systems (RMS)
- Digital evidence platforms (e.g., Axon Evidence.com)
· Review and redact videos to ensure any release is in accordance with federal, state and local statutes, as well as established policy and procedures.
- Assist personnel in navigating software systems to locate, retrieve, export, and securely share data with authorized parties
- Maintain a thorough understanding of law enforcement systems and ensure they are operational, secure, and up to date
- Coordinate software troubleshooting and system upgrades in partnership with City IT and vendor support teams
- Participate in the development, testing, and implementation of police technology projects
Hardware & Network Support:
- Provide first-level support by identifying, diagnosing, and resolving issues related to workstations, peripherals, mobile devices, and Police Department network infrastructure
- Deliver, install, tag, configure, and maintain desktop computers, mobile data terminals, printers, scanners, and other hardware
- Support mobile device management (MDM) for field and administrative staff
- Perform basic network maintenance tasks such as cabling, switch configuration, and connectivity troubleshooting
- Perform minor repairs on equipment not under warranty; coordinate vendor repairs as necessary
- Maintain and deploy system images and assist with machine lifecycle management
User Support & Documentation:
- Offer user-friendly technical assistance to Police Department personnel in person, by phone, and via remote tools
- Provide one-on-one and small-group training for users on police-related systems and IT tools
- Assist in the development and maintenance of technical documentation, FAQs, and how-to guides for end users
- Maintain hardware and software inventory and ensure records are updated and accurate
Collaboration & Other Duties:
- Serve as liaison between the Police Department and City IT to ensure consistent, department-specific support
- Assist Network Administrator, System Administrator, or Software Developer with special projects as needed
- Support emergency response technology and ensure readiness of critical systems
- Perform basic server tasks under supervision when required
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Strong working knowledge of Windows operating systems, networking concepts, and software troubleshooting
- Familiarity with public safety software such as CAD, RMS, or evidence management platforms preferred
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Must pass a background check and maintain confidentiality due to access to sensitive law enforcement systems
Work Environment:
- Work is performed in both office and field environments
- Must be available for occasional after-hours support or emergency response
- May require lifting and moving equipment up to 50 lbs
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $26.45 per hour
