ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assign, and coordinate the work of bus operators responsible for providing mass transit services within the Transit Department.
- Prepare, schedule and assign daily work duties and routes; prepare block sheets, run boards, status reports and call lists.
- Operate a two-way radio in support of dispatching duties; ensure routes are serviced in a timely fashion and on schedule; assist bus operators during breakdowns including securing replacement equipment and staff; coordinate major equipment and vehicle repairs with fleet maintenance staff.
- Maintain employee time sheets, vehicle allocation and run assignments.
- Act as receptionist; answer and screen telephone calls; provide information to the general public; respond to sensitive inquiries and complaints.
- Provide ticket sales and information for walk-in customers.
- Provide public transportation and para-transit dispatching and routing services to seniors, disabled individuals and the general public; dispatch fixed-route and para-transit vehicles as appropriate.
- Assist route supervisor in filling operator shift assignments.
- Provide information to law enforcement concerning Transit accidents, incidents and/or injuries and public safety.
- Verify and load the cash tray for daily business which includes transporting monies to the appropriate area.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
Two years of increasingly responsible experience in dispatch, transit operations, and/or customer service.
Training:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
LICENSING & CERTIFICATIONS:
Required:
Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license and ability to maintain insurability.
Preferred:
A valid North Carolina, Class B Commercial Driver's License with Passenger and Airbrake endorsements.
From the time of closing, the selection process is anticipated to last approximately 4 - 6 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview and skills testing which may include; but not limited to, Outlook, Customer Service and Spelling, with the selected candidate being subject to a pre-employment background check, driving history check and a Department of Transportation (DOT) drug screen.
