SUMMARY OF POSITION
This position will assist in planning, promoting, coordinating, and directing all recreation programs within the Recreation Department. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, innovative, a hard worker, and adaptive to any type of environment. This position requires the flexibility to work evenings, weekend mornings, and afternoon hours.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (Essential functions include the following and the Physical Requirements listed below):
Assists Recreation Supervisor and Recreation Assistant with planning of special events and day camp programs
Responsible for set-up and tear down of equipment at special events
Assists vendors, volunteers, and site staff with directions, rules and problem solving
Assists in coordinating and scheduling of programming
Effectively communicates with staff
Manages supplies and equipment by maintaining an annual inventory
Assists with creating standard operating procedures for facilities and programs
Other duties as assigned.
BASIC JOB QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent required; college credit in a Recreation, Parks, or similar degree field preferred.
Valid Driver's License & driving record acceptable to the City
CPR, AED, and First Aid certified or the ability to become certified within one (1) month of hire
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES REQUIRED
Maintains regular and timely attendance on an ongoing basis
Written and verbal communication skills

Ability to prioritize multiple assignments.

Availability to work evenings, weekends, or other irregular hours, and as necessary, to make and receive contacts by telephone and in person efficiently and effectively during irregular hours
Ability to communicate effectively with the press, as authorized, to inform public of events
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office and recreation facility setting
Frequent standing, sitting, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, twisting, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling for prolonged periods of time
Manual dexterity to operate office equipment, requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination skills, including skillful use of a computer keyboard
Ability to travel to various recreation sites
Ability to verbally communicate effectively to exchange information
Ability to lift 15 pounds on a frequent and regular basis, and up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis
Ability to bend, stretch, and maneuver objects weighing up to 25 pounds on a frequent and regular basis.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Most work will be performed in a recreational setting, either outdoors or indoors, with the Employee traveling to different locations. However, employee will occasionally work in an office setting.
The Employee may be exposed to inclement weather conditions and work and/or walk on various types of surfaces, including slippery or uneven surfaces.
The Employee will frequently be required to work evenings and weekends, and occasionally work extended hours.
