Customer Service Representative - I

1. POSITION TITLE: Customer Service Representative I

2. DEPARTMENT: Utilities/Water/Meter

3. PAY GRADE: 135

4. SALARY: $41,244.00

5. GENERAL DESCRITION OF THE WORK OF THE POSITION:

Responsible for utility connects and disconnects, and delinquent accounts; in the absence of the department supervisor, has the responsibility of the efficient operation of the department. Responsible for reading customer water meters as per prepared meter route schedule and does related duties relative to customers which includes but not limited to thawing meters and lines in cold weather conditions and may be required to work more than 8 hours per day and/or more than 40 hours per week. Possible exposure to fumes, dust, odors and possible risk of bodily injury.

6. DUTIES OF THE POSITION (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY):

Primary duty is turn-offs, and turn-ons, and delinquent accounts; read meters as per prepared meter route schedule; investigates customers complaints; change meters; test meters and records results; advises supervisor of problems in reading, equipment, vehicles and/or with customers; performs duties with a minimum of supervision; does related tasks as required. On call when scheduled, may be required to have a cell phone on his/her person. Works weekends and/or holidays as required. Performs other duties as required by the department supervisor.

7. DESCRIPTION OF SUPERVISION RECEIVED BY AN INCUMBENT OF THIS POSITION:

Supervision is received from the Field Service Supervisor, Meter Department Supervisor or his/her assigns.

8. DESCRIPTION OF SUPERVISION EXERCISED BY AN INCUMBENT OF THIS POSITION:

No supervisory authority is granted.

9. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR PERFORMANCE OF THE WORK:

Ability to communicate effectively with customers and employees; ability to assess the work situation; ability to act in emergency situations and make good judgment decisions; knowledge of tools, equipment and vehicles used in the department; ability to read pressure charges and relay results; mathematical skills; ability to write legible; knowledge of the water system; knowledge of different types of meters; knowledge of meter routes and area covered by each and physical condition average or above.

10. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE NECESSARY FOR WORK PREPARATION:

High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in field of work or related field of work. Experience in setting meters, adequate knowledge of construction principles and possession of a valid West Virginia driver’s license. Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skill, and abilities is also acceptable.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to walk, sit, stand, bend, climb stairs, walk on uneven surfaces, crouch, crawl, kneel and stoop. Additionally, the employee will be required, at times, to lift, carry or push/pull supplies, materials, equipment and/or items weighing up to 50 pounds while performing the duties of this position. Work is primarily conducted outdoors. Incumbents of this position will be exposed to noise, dust and inclement weather conditions.
