The City of Fairfield is seeking a dedicated, hands-on professional to join our Public Works team as a Building Maintenance Worker I/II. WORKING CONDITIONS:
Primarily inside work, with some outside assignments. Includes exposure to unsanitary conditions, odors, cleaning chemicals, and some noise. May include exposure to heights and potential electrical shock. Also involves evening and weekend work; some work done in isolation.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Includes transporting light to heavy objects (up to 100 lbs.); reaching, pushing, pulling, crawling, climbing, stooping, prolonged periods of standing; manual dexterity, vision and hearing.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Building Maintenance Worker I: This is the entry level position in the Building Maintenance Worker Series. Work is initially done under close supervision, with greater independence as experience is gained. This is a "flexibly staffed" position; incumbents may advance to a higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency.
Building Maintenance Worker II: This is the journey level position within the Building Maintenance Worker series. Experience allows greater independence of performance of duties exceeding that of Building Maintenance Worker I.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Building Maintenance Worker I: Receives immediate supervision from the Public Works Supervisor.
Building Maintenance Worker II: Receives general supervision from the Public Works Supervisor.

- One year of experience in general building maintenance work of any combination of plumbing, electrical, or mechanical work.
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
Building Maintenance Worker II
- Minimum of one year experience as an apprentice plumber, or two years of experience in general building maintenance in a large office or commercial complex.
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATE:
Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License is required.
