What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Theater Sound-AV Tech position at City of Fairfield (OH)?
The Fairfield Community Arts Center is seeking a Part-time Sound/Audio-Visual Technician for year-round theater productions. The technicians are responsible for amplifying, mixing, recording, syncing, and reproducing sounds and effects for theatrical rehearsals, productions, and special events. Responsibilities may also include; inspecting equipment, checking connections, and coordinating with vendors. The sound/audio-visual technician will work alongside other theater staff, including the Production Manager, Theater Coordinator, and performers to plan and carry out the structure of sound and audio-visual effects for every performance.
Preparation of soundboards and equipment for shows, as well as maintain the quality of sound and audio-visual effects throughout a performance.
Set up microphones on performers and in various places in the theater.
Checking sound levels and equipment functionality, running sound checks, and other tasks using MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) production equipment.
Repairing and troubleshooting sound equipment, as well as maintaining the work area for other sound professionals to ensure safety and productivity.
Attend meetings with key professionals before rehearsals and help organize cues to perfect the order of execution for effects, music, and other sounds and audio-visual effects.
Candidates for the Theater Sound/Audio-Visual Technician may learn on-the-job; however, postsecondary training is an asset. A certificate or associate's degree is preferred. Hours typically vary between 10 to 25 hours per week and the vast majority of shifts are evenings and weekend. Candidates will receive a rate of pay between $12 per hour for less experienced and up to $18 per hour for very well qualified individuals.
