What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Works Maintenance Worker I/Driver-Right of Ways position at City of Fairfax?
This is responsible work in the operation of a variety of trucks for construction and maintenance purposes.
Work involves the operation and care of trucks snow plowing, leaf collecting, water flushing and general hauling or may involve the operation of a bucket truck to remove tree limbs and for other purposes. Work also may involve a variety of semiskilled and general labor work. Occasionally operate brush and refine trucks. Work is performed under the general supervision of a crew leader and is reviewed through observation and daily reports.Operates vehicles and equipment; hauls construction materials to and from job sites; loads and unloads materials.
Inspects truck and equipment to ensure proper operation and servicing; reports safety violations and repair needs to superior; performs routine maintenance and servicing of assigned vehicle.
Performs a variety of semi-skilled and general labor tasks related to the work of the crew to which assigned during periods and at intervals when not actually engaged in truck driving or equipment operation.
Operates backhoe, loader, tamper, or other types of equipment when required.
Maintains safety regulations and work standards in operation of vehicles and equipment.
Performs snow and ice removal duties.
May be required to respond to emergencies outside normal workday.
Performs related work as assigned.

Considerable knowledge of traffic laws and regulations involved in vehicle operation.
Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of assigned work.
Ability to read maps.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to follow city safety regulations.
Skill in driving assigned vehicles.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
Possession of a valid class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Air brakes & Tanker N endorsements, with a good driving record.

Selected candidates with an active CDL will receive a $2,000 bonus upon hire. (Paid per pay period, 26 pay periods per year)
