The City of Fairburn is seeking a Water Superintendent that is an experienced, professional with extensive experience in utilities water, sewer and storm water field. Supervisory experience preferred. Local or county government experience is preferred. This position reports to the Utility Manager - Water.

JOB SUMMARY
The Water Superintendent is responsible for scheduling, assigning and monitoring work of the water, sewer, stormwater division personnel and ensures the maintenance of the City’s distribution and collection systems. Reports to the Utility Manager- Water.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Maintains and updates a map of all valve locations.
- Ensures inventory of department equipment and tools is conducted and properly maintained.
- Ensures all pumping stations are maintained in proper operating condition.
- Supervises and enforces safe work practices within the department.
- Facilitates training of water department personnel.
- Reviews and writes vehicle and equipment specifications.
- Be available on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week when not on leave.
- Ensures supplies and materials for the water and sewer department are ordered.
- Coordinates department work with other City departments as necessary.
- Ensures monthly EPD City water samples are collected from 30 sites for delivery to the City of Atlanta or other entities when required.
- Ensures the collection of water lead & cooper samples from 10 sites are provided to EPD.
- Ensures the annual collection of storm water samples are provided to the Atlanta Regional Commission.
- Ensures the inspection of all newly-installed water and sewer lines.
- Ensures department personnel’s compliance with City personnel policy.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED ; supplemented by five (5) years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Licenses or Certifications:
Valid State of Georgia driver’s license; State of Georgia Water Distribution License; State of Georgia Wastewater Collection System License
Special Requirements:
Requires an acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history check, and a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. Must possess a valid State of Georgia driver’s license and must have a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) as defined by City Personnel Policy.
Requires satisfactory results from a pre-employment alcohol and controlled substance testing.
Requires pre-employment medical evaluation and satisfactory results from a pre-employment alcohol and controlled substance testing in accordance DOT federal regulations.
This position is deemed safety-sensitive and is subject to random alcohol and controlled substance testing.

- Knowledge of the inter-connected nature of the water and sewer systems with wholesale service providers.
- Knowledge of water & sewer line construction, maintenance, & repair procedures.

- Ability to read water & sewer construction plans.
- Ability to interact effectively with contractors and builders.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force. Work requires the ability to exert moderate physical effort, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in an office and an outdoor environment. Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, toxic agents, disease, or pathogenic substances.

Salary : $85,191 - $89,450
