Summer Recreation Leader (Seasonal)

Under the direction of the Parks & Recreation Assistant Superintendent and the Parks & Recreation Programmer, the Summer Recreation Leader is responsible for coordinating, implementing and promoting all recreational opportunities, including community events, while continuing to advance the City of Fairborn Parks and Recreation Division’s underlying mission of improving the quality of life through recreational and cultural activities. In doing so, the Summer Recreation Leader’s primary responsibilities include assisting in developing and leading youth and family summer programming, program/event coordination/oversight, working special events and additional administrative functions.  Performs additional divisional work as requested.

Assists in continuous research and identification of the community’s needs and interests as it relates to Parks and Recreation and cater to those needs from a recreational/cultural perspective.

Assists in developing and maintaining partnership relations with community businesses, groups, and other departments throughout the city to provide additional funding possibilities bringing a wide variety of activities and opportunities.

Assists in gaining alternative funding sources to support the recreational offerings of the Recreation Division.  

Assists in coordinating and implementing various summer camps, nature activities that include arts and crafts, field games, and community festivals.

Assists the primary coordinator with all recreational offerings for the Parks & Recreation Division, as described above.

Responds to request for recreation information; answers questions and provides necessary information; helps individuals navigate online enrollment for programs. 

Prepares a variety of reports and other correspondence as requested by the Parks & Recreation Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.

Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to meet the job responsibilities of the Summer Recreation Leader I.  Minimum of some completed course work in a related field, or the equivalent of at least two years of directly related recreation experience. 

Applicant must have a valid Ohio Driver’s License.

Experience with children and sports/nature/recreation education programs preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge and practices of business and recreational development principles. 

Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.

Ability to work various hours including evening, weekend, and holidays, as necessary.  

Ability to handle deadlines and prioritize work.

Ability to participate in a variety of tasks relating to Parks & Recreation.

Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers, supervisors, vendors, and the general public.

Ability to readily learn computer programs used in the office.

Skill in the use of standard office equipment.

Ability to supervise, monitor, and/or instruct youth programming.
