BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
Under the general supervision of the Public Works Supervisor, the Seasonal Street Maintenance Worker performs manual labor and semi-skilled work in support of street maintenance and repair operations. This temporary position assists with maintaining City streets, drainage systems, and rights-of-way to ensure safe and efficient public infrastructure.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
- Reports to: Director of Public Works
- Other: Will have dealings with all employees and general public
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND OPERATIONS:
- Perform street maintenance activities, including pothole patching, asphalt repair, and roadway upkeep
- Assist with maintenance of drainage systems, including cleaning ditches, culverts, and storm drains
- Operate and maintain hand tools and basic equipment (e.g., shovels, rakes, tampers, jackhammers)
- Assist with traffic control by placing and removing cones, barricades, and warning signs
- Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment as needed
- Maintain cleanliness of streets, alleys, and public rights-of-way
- Follow all safety policies and procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Respond to work assignments in a timely and efficient manner
- Regular and timely attendance
- Perform other related duties as assigned
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Basic knowledge of street maintenance practices and tools
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, and inclement weather
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to understand and follow safety rules and regulations
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Applicable valid Texas Driver’s License
- Must be bondable
