Description:
  • Provides and ensures the humane treatment and care for animals by providing animal husbandry, kennel sanitation, along with feeding and watering the animals. Ensures epidemiological risks are limited, disease and injury are rapidly observed and follows established protocols to ensure animal health and safety.
  • Ensures that facilities are in good repair and working order by recognizing the need for repairs and reporting them accordingly.
  • Maintains accurate records for animals, controlled substances, and documents according to Federal and State Law and policy. Maintains inventory records of controlled substances and Municipal Animal Services supplies. Maintains facilities in a neat and organized manner.
  • Maintains supplies and storage areas in a neat and organized manner, managing inventory and supplies in accordance with established policies and practices.
  • Receives animals from citizens and provides compassionate customer service.
  • Responds to residents and other departments calls for service, including but not limited to: loose animals, bite incidents, aggressive animals, neglect investigations, confined animal pick up, deceased animal pick up and other enforcement duties.
  • Uses technology efficiently, including animal management software, field operations software, technological programs to streamline and organize workload, and basic office equipment.
  • Routes issues and complaints to the appropriate personnel.
  • Assists with coordination and communication with rescue partners and citizens.
  • Regular and timely attendance.
Requirements:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Follow the mission of the Municipal Animal Services.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Municipal Animal Services protocols and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of breeds, diseases, medical conditions, and animal handling and behavior.
  • Ability to handle animals safely and with patience and gentleness.
  • Ability to represent the Municipal Animal Services and cities it represents in a professional manner in all situations with the public, volunteers, and staff.
  • Ability to create and sustain positive working relationships within the Municipal Animal Services, cities it represents, with volunteers, the public, and be a team player.
  • Must be patient, courteous and work well under stressful conditions.
  • Knowledge and ability to accurately work with detailed information in paper and computerized format.
  • Must be detail oriented and have strong time management skills.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to learn and quickly adapt to changes in programs and procedures.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Applicable valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Must be bondable
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Basic Animal Control Certification within 1 year of employment, within four months of employment.

  • Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job this position may be exposed to animal odors or airborne particles.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
