About The Job
The Maintenance Technician performs a wide variety of tasks related to the maintenance of City of Everett grounds, facilities, and equipment. The assignments include the performance of a variety of manual labor tasks of routine difficulty associated with carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and logistical maintenance, and service work. Duties require the use of various standard hand and power tools. Some assignments may require towing trailers, tractors, and the use of other approved equipment. This position also requires the operation of non-CDL vehicles. Individuals in this job class may work independently or as a helper to an employee with a higher job classification. Employees in this class may perform varied custodial work in the care of public buildings and grounds as needed. This work includes responsibility for observation, recording and repair of damage to City owned assets. Compliance with all policies set forth by the City is essential while performing assigned duties. Work schedules vary depending on business needs, which may include weekends, evenings, holidays or alternate schedules as needed.
This position reports to a manager, or their designee, although actual work assignments and review may be exercised by higher-level City personnel. This position may lead the work of seasonal employees and volunteers. Most duties are performed independently to conform to prescribed standards. Assignments will vary based on the needs of the department.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience in parks, facilities, grounds maintenance or construction work relevant to the work described above; and/or any combination of training and experience sufficient to provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Possession of a valid driver license at the date of hire, and the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire, a valid, unrestricted (except for vision) Washington State Driver License.
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire, current certifications in CPR, AED, and basic first aid and maintain these certifications for the duration of employment.
- Must be able to perform outdoor work for prolonged periods under uncomfortable conditions in all types of weather.
- Ability to access and work in variable work sites.
- Perform physical labor, work independently, and adapt to changes.
- Must be physically capable of sustained lifting, bending, climbing, standing, walking, and working in prevailing weather conditions.
- Lift and carry 50 pounds and occasionally move heavier objects as required by the work assignment.
- Must be able and willing to work varying shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays; respond to off-hour call outs.

- Responses to the Supplemental Questionnaire for Maintenance Technician.
- Applications must be submitted through the City’s online application system by 5:00 p.m. on January 12, 2025 to be considered.
- LATE, INCOMPLETE, FAXED, OR EMAILED APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
- The Supplemental Questionnaire is part of the application (weighed 30%). Answers must be detailed and will be blind rated.
- A limited number of applicants with the highest passing grades on the supplemental questionnaire (weighted 30%) will be invited to a practical evaluation (weighted 70%) tentatively scheduled for the week of January 26th.
- All vacancies in this job class will be filled from the ranked Civil Service register established from the examination process for 12 months.
- A passing grade of 70.00 or higher is required on all parts of the screening process for placement on the ranked Civil Service eligible register.
- The examination process is designed to sample and measure the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Applicants claiming veterans’ preference points in accordance with RCW 41.04.010 as amended and meeting eligibility criteria must submit form DD214, or its equivalent or successor discharge paperwork, that characterizes his or her service as qualifying discharge as defined in RCW 73.04.005.
- Extensive background checks will be conducted.
- Hiring offers are contingent upon successful completion of a city-paid pre-employment physical.
- New hires begin employment at the first step of the salary range.
