This is journey-level work in the maintenance and repair of automotive, heavy-duty truck, construction equipment, electric vehicles, and buses.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements
- AA degree in Automobile/Diesel technology from an accredited school OR a minimum of two (2) years of journey-level knowledge in Automotive/Diesel diagnostics and repair, which includes journey-level experience in Automotive/Diesel diagnostic and repair of equipment.
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment and maintain thereafter, valid A5, A6, T4, and T6 Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications.
- Submission to a driving/accident records check.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire and maintain thereafter, a valid, unrestricted (except for vision) Washington State Driver License.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire and maintain thereafter, a valid, unrestricted (except for vision) Washington Commercial Driver License (CDL) with the necessary endorsements as prescribed by law Provided by the City.
- Obtain a City provided forklift certification within six (6) months of hire and maintain thereafter.
- Work variable shifts including days, nights, weekends, special events, over-time, and holidays.
- Perform work requiring sustained lifting, bending, climbing, standing, and walking often on concrete surfaces; exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or move up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects; working in awkward positions and in cramped quarters; kneeling, crouching, and crawling; reaching, handling, fingering, and grasping requiring fine finger manipulations using both hands and arms; use of speech, hearing, sight feeling and sense of smell; and, hand, eye/foot coordination. The work can be performed outside under adverse weather conditions, also exposure to dampness, dust, dirt, rain, sleet, snow, and heat. The work may also be performed on road service calls and/or in inclement weather.

- Applications will be reviewed on a weekly basis and interviews scheduled as needed until the June 30 deadline.

- There will be a pre-screening of all applications.
- Responses to the supplemental questionnaire will be individually reviewed and evaluated (weighted 10%).
- Top-scoring applicants will be called to an oral panel interview (weighted 90%). Interviews will tentatively be held on February 16, 2026.
- All vacancies in this job class will be filled from the ranked Civil Service register established from the examination process for 12 months.
- A passing grade of 70.00 or higher is required on all parts of the screening process for placement on the ranked Civil Service eligible register.
- The examination process is designed to sample and measure the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Applicants claiming veterans’ preference points in accordance with RCW 41.04.010 as amended and meeting eligibility criteria must submit form DD214, or its equivalent or successor discharge paperwork, that characterizes his or her service as qualifying discharge as defined in RCW 73.04.005.
- Any position requiring a CDL, or the performance of a safety sensitive function will be subject to the City of Everett’s random Drug and Alcohol Policy, per Federal DOT regulations.
- Extensive background checks will be conducted.
- Hiring offers are contingent upon successful completion of a City-paid medical evaluation and drug screen.
