The City of Eustis is seeking a trustworthy, responsible individual who under supervision, performs skilled work involving the operation and maintenance of water or wastewater treatment plant facilities. Work is performed independently in accordance with established policies and procedures.
EXAMPLES OF MACHINES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT - Chemicals such as chlorine and polymer for wastewater and chlorine and fluoride for water; motors; pumps; valves; gauges; lawn mower; various hand tools and equipment; various custodial tools and equipment; heavy equipment such as tractors, trucks, loaders (Wastewater-belt press)
SUPERVISION RECEIVED - Lead Operator, Foreman, Supervisor
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS –
- Operates and maintains valves, gates, pumps, engines, generators and other equipment;
- Maintains cleanliness of facilities;
- Repairs mechanical equipment and machinery;
- Monitors, calculates, interprets and records gauges, meters and control panels;
- Extracts samples and performs tests to determine processing requirements;
- Makes necessary adjustments to chlorinators and other machinery and equipment;
- Oversees and trains Operator Trainees, when required;
- Reviews and maintains records and reports;
- Prepares and submits departmental forms such as DER, HRS, EPA;
- Assists the City in the preparation for and aftermath of a major emergency, such as a hurricane or other storm or disaster, as needed.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS –
- Performs general maintenance and labor work such as mowing, cleaning, laying pipe & concrete, painting;
- Wastewater Department - drives and operates sludge truck
- Performs other related duties, as required.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills - Knowledge of water or wastewater treatment plant operation; knowledge of the occupational hazards involved in treatment and disposal; knowledge of the repair and maintenance of pumps and related equipment; knowledge of basic chemistry and mathematics as they relate to treatment plant operation.
Ability to maintain accurate records; ability to work well with others; ability to inspect and repair mechanical equipment and machinery; ability to read meters and charts accurately; ability to perform shift work (nights, weekends and holidays); ability to drive a vehicle; ability to remain at a city work shelter, before, during and after a hurricane or other storm or disaster, if asked
Skill in mechanical repair.
Working Hours:Generally, normal working hours for this position are from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. However, this employee will be required to work on-call on rotation during nights and weekends.
Physical Demands - This is moderately heavy work most of the working time. Requires frequent walking; frequent standing, climbing, stooping, reaching, bending; lifting 50 pounds, carrying/ pushing/pulling 50 pounds; good finger/hand dexterity and hand/eye coordination; good eyesight; hearing and speech or vocal communication (for safety); working in adverse environmental conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.); regular driving and operation of assigned equipment.
Salary Information:
$20.87 per hour ($43,417.65 per year); EXCELLENT benefits (Note: See Benefits Tab for more information). Applicants should expect a starting salary of $20.87 per hour.
