JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for supervising and participating in street construction and maintenance operations.
MAJOR DUTIES
· Prioritizes and makes daily work assignments.
· Supervises and participates in the operation of a variety of tools and equipment, including knuckle boom truck, tow truck, collection truck, dumpster truck, street sweeper, etc.
· Directs the maintenance and repair of city streets.
· Directs the maintenance and repair of street signs and markings.
· Directs the maintenance and repair of city storm drainage systems.
· Performs carpentry and masonry duties.
· Directs the maintenance of tools and equipment.
· Directs and participates in mosquito control operations.
· Applies herbicides.
· Prepares for special city events.
· Trains, assigns, directs, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines personnel.
· Responds to after-hours emergencies.
· Performs related duties.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Assistant Public Works Director assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include traffic laws, state Department of Transportation specifications, and city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
· The work consists of varied, supervisory, technical, and equipment operation duties. Heavy traffic and inclement weather contribute to the complexity of the position.
· The purpose of this position is to supervise public works construction and maintenance operations. Successful performance contributes to safe and well-maintained city infrastructure.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
· The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, utilizes the sense of smell, and distinguishes between shades of color.
· The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position has direct supervision over Equipment Operator II (1) and Equipment Operator I (1).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
· Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
· Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years experience or service.
· Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Pay: $36,504.00 - $38,355.20 per year
