Job Overview
The employee is responsible for performing tasks of a skilled and semi-skilled nature to include, but not limited to, cutting grass, trimming trees, removing debris from streets, loading, and unloading dirt, gravel, and debris. Duties also include collecting refuse from City streets and dumpsters on an as needed basis. Works as part of a construction crew in repair of streets, sidewalks, drainage system, and roadway/street signage. Employee will also be responsible for support directives given by Department Head or his/her designee as assigned. Instructions are generally specific; however, some duties will require different approaches to complete.
EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION:
- The employee will operate, maintain, and ensure cleanliness of assigned light duty equipment to include, but not limited to, vehicles under 26,000 pounds, tractors, skid steer’s, riding and push mowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, edger’s, leaf machine, rakes, and shovels.
- Employee will also utilize hand tools and machinery to perform limited plumbing and electrical work, carpentry, concrete work and other general labor tasks.
- Employee may also operate lever on the refuse truck to compact and empty refuse.
- Much of the job is performed outdoors and will be performed in all weather conditions.
- Employee will be exposed to loud noise, dirt, smoke, tobacco smoke, and foul odors.
- Employee will be exposed to chemicals, fumes and other potentially hazardous substances.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
- Cuts grass with weed eaters, mowers, and other hand-held equipment.
- Removes debris from streets, rights-of-way, canals, and drainage systems.
- Loads and unloads dirt, gravel, refuse, and other debris.
- Works as part of a team to repair streets, sidewalks, drainage systems, and signage.
- Clean vehicles, check and maintain all fluids for vehicle and equipment operation on a daily basis.
- Must perform heavy manual labor in all types of weather conditions, frequently lifting objects 25-50 lbs. or more.
- Performs additional emergency duties after normal work hours when required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of and the ability to work with the materials, machinery, and equipment used in general maintenance and construction work.
- General knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Ability to apply common sense, understanding, and experience to carry out verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to demonstrate initiative to accomplish given instructions and manage unsupervised time productively.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and customers.
- Ability to intermittently sit, stand, crouch, stoop, balance, lift, climb stairs, and bend, etc.
Pay: $13.50 - $14.85 per hour
