What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Parks Maintenance Technician position at City of Ennis?
Under general supervision, supervises, schedules, and evaluates work performed by parks maintenance staff that prepares, maintains, inspects, and repairs parks and athletic facilities and equipment. Responsibilities include park maintenance and care, athletic field maintenance, facilities maintenance, field preparation, mowing, irrigation maintenance, and parks equipment repairs.
Plans, prioritizes, and reviews the work of assigned Parks Maintenance Technicians to a variety of unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction, repair, and maintenance of city parks and open space facilities, structures, and grounds, including playgrounds, irrigation systems, athletic fields, and related facilities. |
Performs routine safety inspections and repair of related facility equipment including, playground equipment, safety screens, nets, cages, benches, fencing/gates, and backstops. |
Participates in evaluating activities of assigned Parks Maintenance Technicians, recommending improvements and modifications; develops schedules and methods to accomplish assignments ensuring work is completed in a timely and efficient manner. |
Installs, programs, and troubleshoots irrigation controllers and components of irrigation systems; creates seasonally appropriate irrigation schedules; leads and participates in turf and grounds maintenance, modification, design, installation, construction, and repair projects. |
Installs and repairs plumbing, electrical, and structural fixtures in various facilities using a variety of tools and equipment; ensures safe use and operation of equipment. |
Develops daily, weekly, and seasonal work plans and determines resource and staffing requirements. |
Operates and trains staff on proper use of a variety of hand tools, power tools, and light and heavy-duty gasoline powered equipment. |
Oversees turf maintenance functions that include herbicide applications, fertilizing, aerating, top dressing, mowing, dethatching, and over seeding. |
Prepares and maintains time and material records. |
Provides excellent customer service to patrons and the public utilizing parks, athletic fields, and facilities. |
Has frequent contact with employees, citizens, local state, federal agencies, and other city departments. |
Ability to arrive to work on time and must maintain a regular and reliable level of attendance. |
Performs other duties as assigned. |
- Principles and practices of technical and functional supervision and training.
- Safety practices, accident prevention techniques and occupational hazards.
- Safe operation of power tools and equipment commonly used in the performance of park and open space maintenance and construction, and maintenance and repair of small equipment and power and manual tools.
- Principles and practices of horticulture, landscaping; and irrigation systems, controllers, and components.
- Park maintenance work procedures and practices; materials and methods used in the design, construction, installation, maintenance and repair of parks grounds and structures.
- Plumbing, painting, carpentry, electrical, welding, and structural methods, and practices used in park facilities.
- Developing recommendations for improvements of parks and recreation facilities.
High School Diploma or equivalent, one (1) year experience in landscaping, irrigation, or turf/athletic field maintenance, and one (1) year of supervisory experience.
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
A Valid Class C Texas driver license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record. Recognized Certificates or licenses in Playground Inspections, Pesticide Application, Irrigation, or Class A or B Texas driver license are preferred.
