Overview

Englewood is home to 35,000 people in the heart of the Denver metropolitan region. Englewood is a proudly independent, full-service community. Minutes from world class art and entertainment venues in downtown Denver and the Rocky Mountain foothills, Englewood is home to major medical and manufacturing facilities along with its own foodie, arts and startup communities centered in historic downtown Englewood and the Central Business District.

Englewood is also a transportation hub with two light rail stops on the Denver regional passenger rail system and exceptional roadway access provided from all directions by US Highway 285 (Hampden Ave.) and US Highway 85 (Santa Fe Drive). Bus service is provided by RTD, including the most frequent bus route in the region, and the free Englewood Trolley that connects the Englewood light rail station to downtown Englewood, the medical district, and civic center.

The Englewood Court Navigation Program is recruiting a temporary court navigator to assist our underserved population with connection to resource and assist to overcome barriers to successful completion of required court orders. 

The Englewood Municipal Court’s mission is to “Ensure Justice with Dignity for All” and works diligently towards meeting its goals to: Safeguard Individual Rights; Provide Efficient, Effective & Fair Service; Promote Rehabilitative & Restorative Opportunities; Collaborate with Community Partners; and Enhance Public Safety. The Restorative Justice Program is housed within the Municipal Court with a mission to “foster resilience through restorative and collaborative community and system responses to harm.” 



Program Description

The Englewood Municipal Court’s mission is to “Ensure Justice with Dignity for All” and works diligently towards meeting its goals to: Safeguard Individual Rights; Provide Efficient, Effective & Fair Service; Promote Rehabilitative & Restorative Opportunities; Collaborate with Community Partners; and Enhance Public Safety. The Court Navigation Program is housed within the Municipal Court with a mission to “foster resilience through restorative and collaborative community and system responses to harm.”

The Englewood Municipal Court Navigation Program began in October 2019. Since that time, the program has assisted more than 100 people access resources for housing, food, transportation, and/or healthcare along with identification cards.



Position Summary

The Court Navigator Consultant (Consultant) position is a part-time, temporary position funded by a one-year Justice Assistance Grant (April 2025 through March 2026). The Consultant will be expected to work 20-hours per week in person, mostly at the Englewood Municipal Court at the Englewood Civic Center (1000 Englewood Parkway, Englewood, CO 80110).


Examples of Duties:

  • Shows understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, cooperation, concern, and politeness to others and relates well to different people from varied backgrounds and different situations while also having the ability to work with individuals with diverse economic, cultural, racial and mental backgrounds, to include belligerent, argumentative, aggressive and/or violent people, people with mental illness and homelessness.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary agencies such as homeless shelters, mental health workers, case managers, and other courts in coordinating a wide array of outreach, health care, case management, and patient engagement functions in supporting and connecting individuals of at-risk populations with services.
  • Establish professional relationships with these high need populations through use of evidence-based, best practices, and clinical techniques including but not limited to Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Informed Care, Critical Time Intervention, Harm Reduction, and Housing-First modalities to respond to requests timely and provide effective services or solutions for clients.
  • Assists defendants with navigating systems that require completing multiple forms, providing accurate information, and patience such as Social Security, Medicaid, State ID providers, and other complex provider systems.
  • Provides direct case management services to clients by facilitating client-first communication via phone calls, emails, and other methods of communication; providing referral and resources support; creating entry and exit follow up plans; and participating in local and/or regional individualized service and support teams; providing navigation support as a wraparound facilitator and/or liaison.
  • Gathers and maintains information on resources and eligibility requirements for services available to individuals and families; gathers qualitative and quantitative data from individuals and families regarding services; prepares and reviews documents (case notes, meeting information); collects and distributes information; responds to navigation inquiries from individuals, families and professionals.
  • Compiles data including daily activities for presentation to internal and external stakeholders including documentation of available services and navigation requirements so that information and work may be accessed by and coordinated with a variety of providers who interface with the homeless or at-risk populations in Englewood, including the Englewood Police Department, probation officers, attorneys, and members of the Homeless Outreach Team, which may involve modifying or preparing written materials including procedures, correspondence, and training materials.


Qualifications

The following knowledge, skills and abilities are required:

  • Working knowledge of court navigation
  • Highly motivated and independent worker
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, organizational and collaboration skills
  • A commitment to relationship-building and ability to assist the at-risk populations
  • Adherence to confidentiality requirements
  • Strong computer skills
  • High level of professionalism with ability to work effectively, respectfully, and compassionately with defendants, victims, families, community partners, volunteers, criminal justice professionals and law enforcement
  • Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED


The following knowledge, skills and abilities are preferred:

  • Bilingual Spanish strongly preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or one year of related professional experience
  • Knowledge of criminal justice system
  • Experience and/or training with at-risk populations including but not limited to those with mental health issues, unhoused or having addictions
  • Experience and/or training in conflict resolution, cultural competency, equity and bias, anti-oppression, person-centered approaches, trauma-informed care and harm reduction
