POSITION SUMMARY
The seasonal officer assists code compliance officers with enforcement of city ordinances related to municipal codes, specifically for grass, weeds, and overgrowth. Conducts property inspections and investigates complaints related to grass, weeds, and overgrowth. Issues warnings, and notices and prepares cases for higher levels of enforcement action. This is a non-sworn position with a flexible work schedule.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: Code Compliance Supervisor or the Deputy Building Official in the supervisor’s absence.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Conducts visual inspections in assigned areas of the city and investigates complaints reported by officials, city employees, or citizens. Assesses and addresses customer and community needs and concerns.
- Prepares records and reports. Issues warnings and notices of violation for violations of the city's nuisance codes.
- Coordinates activities with other Code Compliance Officers and the Code Compliance Supervisor
- Prepares and documents non-compliant properties through means of photographs and written documentation.
- Prepare a narrative report concerning findings for potential court use and may testify as a witness as needed.
Other Duties & Responsibilities
- Able to work a flexible shift during the work week between Monday through Friday and between the hours of 7:00am and 5:00pm.
- Performs other duties as assigned and required.
PREPARATION AND TRAINING
Education
- High School Education or GED completed
Work Experience
- Minimum 1 year of customer service experience (high public contact)
- Code Compliance/animal welfare/law enforcement experience preferred
Certifications and/or Licensures
- None
Required Driver’s License
- Valid Colorado driver’s license and a clear or acceptable MVR
Age Requirement
- Must be 18 years of age or older
An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant job experience may be substituted.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge
Working knowledge of:
- Applications software for the Windows environment, especially Microsoft Office.
- Business language, grammar, and document formatting.
Basic knowledge of the following is helpful but not required.
- State and Federal Constitutional Law.
- Search and Seizure Laws.
- International Property Management Code.
- Basic self-defense.
Skills and Abilities
Computer Skills - Strong skills are required to prepare reports and correspondence and maintain accurate logs of activities.
Communication - Strong customer service skills are required to provide the public with the underlying rationale for codes. Strong conflict resolution skills are needed to deal with difficult clientele. Basic written skills with correct grammar are required to write reports and correspondence.
Must be a quick learner to be able to:
- Develop a working knowledge of portions of Titles 5 through 16 of the Englewood Municipal Code as well as various other secondary codes.
- Learn and apply departmental procedure and policy accurately.
- Learn the streets and boundaries within the city.
- Learn to operate city vehicles.
- Learn conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques.
HOURLY PAY RATE
$25.50/Hourly Pay Rate
This is a seasonal position expected to run through approximately October 1st.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is performed in the field and in a standard office environment. The employee is exposed to various weather conditions including wet, hot and cold conditions. Also exposed to various environmental conditions which may include unsanitary nuisance property conditions with excessive trash, litter, junk, sewage, animal waste, solvents, grease, oils and body fluids: excessive noise; slippery or uneven walking surfaces.
