What are the responsibilities and job description for the Water Operator Apprenticeship position at City of Elmore?
This apprenticeship will be a 2- year, guided program through the Minnesota Rural Water Association. Once completed, you will have the skills required to become a certified water operator. The apprenticeship includes on-the-job training, plus in-person and online training through MRWA. This is a full-time, full benefit position available once the apprenticeship is completed.
Our facilities require a Minnesota Department of Health Water System Operator Class C license and Minnesota Pollution Control Agency Wastewater Operator Class D license. The apprentice will be qualified to test for both of these certifications once the program is completed. Knowledge of heavy equipment for moving snow, dirt, street sweeping, etc. is preferred.
Other tasks include maintaining city buildings/properties, streets, storm sewers, meters, water lines, water treatment plant, ponds, lift stations, parks, city equipment, wells, locate utilities, and mowing. Willing to work under MN-OSHA safety requirements.
Regular hours: Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 4:00 pm. Some weekends and emergency hours are required. Position starts at $15.00 per hour the first year, 40 hours/week (depending on MRWA training requirements), benefits include PERA (Public Employees Retirement Association), paid holidays, and 20 personal leave hours.
