JOB The City of Elgin seeks an Assistant Corporation Counsel. This is an in-house position within the City’s Law Department and reports to the Corporation Counsel. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Responsibilities of Position
Responsibilities include providing legal advice and representation for the City, its officials, departments, staff and boards and commissions on a variety of areas of local government law, drafting and reviewing of ordinances, contracts and other legal documents, legal research and drafting of opinions, state and federal litigation including ordinance enforcement, arbitrations, real estate transactional work and other duties as assigned. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Completed applications must also include a resume and a writing sample. Applicants must pass a background investigation, criminal history record check and drug test. Salary range is $108,400 - $173,600, depending upon qualifications and experience, plus a comprehensive benefit package. Applications will be reviewed when submitted, with formal review of applications anticipated to begin May 15, 2026. The position will remain open until filled. The City of Elgin is an EOE.
