POSITION OVERVIEW
Who Is It Geared For?
This program is designed to give low- to moderate-income youth the opportunity to gain valuable experience and develop skills needed for future employment. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
Be 15–18 years old (15-year-olds must obtain a work permit from their school counselor)
Reside in Elgin
- Qualify as low- to moderate-income
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
What Will I Do?
Participants will be placed in a variety of roles within the City of Elgin’s Parks and Recreation Department, including pool attendant, fitness assistant, or grounds recreation support. Job locations will vary depending on assignments.
In addition to hands-on work, participants will attend skill-building sessions on topics such as resume writing and interview preparation, facilitated by city staff, community partners, and local businesses.
This unique program is limited to only one participant per household.
When Will I Work?
Employment Dates: June 1 – August 14, 2026
Hours & Pay: 30 hours/week at $15.00 per hour
- Requirements: Candidates must pass a drug test before hire

To be eligible for the City of Elgin Summer Youth Internship Program you must meet the following criteria for family income.

One of the following documents is required for proof of income:
- Copy of the current school year free lunch or reduced lunch letter.
- Proof that child is in a certified foster home.
- Parent/Guardian most recent U.S. 1040.
- If using the most recent U.S. 1040 as proof of income, the child must be listed as a dependent.
Salary : $15
