Education and ExperienceA Bachelor's degree or higher in business or public administration, finance, engineering, urban or regional planning or design, transportation, or a related field.

Licenses and Certificates: Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state.

Under general supervision, perform entry level transit planning of routes and schedules.

Assist in the coordination of transit scheduling functions. Involves: Assist in the analysis and preparation of annual service plans for fixed route, streetcar and/or paratransit services. Compile and maintain transit system performance measures statistics such as revenue hours, miles, and ridership for monthly and annual transit performance reports. 

Assist with preparation and maintenance of transit schedules. Involves: Monitor the fixed route schedules and creation of daily work assignments for transit operators. Conduct field assessments of transit bus routes and stops. Maintain the inventory of bus stops. Review route alignments and ridership, make recommendations for bus route and schedule adjustments, and review transit service requests that may require new or adjusted service. Identify problems and recommend appropriate solutions. Coordinate printing and review of schedule data for passenger information panels posted at bus stops. Conduct field work as needed to ensure information is correctly displayed, and conduct field assessments at bus stops. Assist with oversight of transit-specific scheduling software and long-term projects that help maintain and improve the functionality of transit service such as the, Automatic Vehicle Locator (AVL) system, Geographic Information System (GIS) and other elements of service. File, generate reports and design guidelines in cooperation with the graphics team.

Assist with the preparation and implementation of service revisions to improve efficiency and effectiveness of transit operations. Involves: Assist with running time checks, service analysis, operational planning, and market research. Collaborate with other department divisions such as Operations, to coordinate service planning matters to improve service. Assist with the collection of data to improve route layout, scheduling efficiency, and to estimate potential ridership, passenger load factors and frequency. Determine the number of vehicles required to maintain the desired frequency of service based on passenger load factors. Research and respond to customer complaints related to service planning, route planning, schedules and customer information services.   Perform miscellaneous duties as required. Involves: Perform duties of subordinates to ensure continuity of operations. Ride transit vehicles as a passenger to periodically observe operations. Provide administrative or office support for superior staff in meetings with the public.

Supervise assigned personnel. Involves: Schedule, assign, instruct, guide and check work. Appraise employee performance. Provide for training and development. Enforce personnel rules and regulations and work behavior standards firmly and impartially. Counsel, motivate and maintain harmony. Interview applicants. Recommend hiring, termination, transfers, discipline, merit pay or other employee status changes.
