Water Treatment Plant Operator: Class A-D

NOTE: This positions REQUIRES a WATER OPERATOR LICENSE as described below.

The City of Effingham Public Works Department is seeking candidates to serve as a Class A Water Treatment Plant Operator, but will accept the most qualified candidate certified with an operator license from Class A-D. This position reports to the Water Treatment Plant Chief Operator. This position is full-time, with a starting wage ranging from $37.89 (Class A) - $31.70 (Class D), based on the level of operator license certification. Wages incrementally increase as defined by union contract. The City offers a comprehensive benefits package, including a defined pension plan. Duties:

· Collects samples, conducts lab tests, or orders lab tests to be performed;

· Reads meters, gauges, and dials and maintains logs of readings;

· Regulates water levels in all units;

· Reviews plant log records, gauges, and meters, and monitors other plant testing and measuring devices to ensure that equipment is functioning properly and accurately;

· Responds to emergency calls;

· Performs plant maintenance, including repair and overhaul maintenance of equipment on a regular basis.

· Performs laboratory tasks, conducts required EPA and IEPA tests, orders chemicals, and applies chemicals, etc.;

· Maintains current knowledge of professional developments in the field and regulatory requirements, including maintaining appropriate professional development hours in accordance with relevant requirements;

· Submits reports to the appropriate agencies, including but not limited to, the IEPA;

· Operates the water treatment plant in accordance with current IEPA standards;

· Performs other related duties in coordination with other Divisions of the Public Works Department, as required;

Minimum Qualifications:

· Possess Class B-D WTP Operator License;

· Associate's degree or equivalent from college or technical school;

· Or one (1) - two (2) years related experience and/or training;

· Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Possess Class A WTP Operator License;

· Associate's degree or equivalent from college or technical school;

· Or two (2) - three (3) years related experience and/or training;

· Or equivalent combination of education and experience;

· Experience with Word Office Suite.
