Community Engagement and Development Coordinator/Librarian

Edwardsville Public Library

Accountability: Library Director

Pursue funding opportunities, market library programs and services, and build community relationships. Collaborate within and beyond the library’s walls to support and develop initiatives, projects, and services that address the community’s needs in unique and exciting ways.

Pay range:

Coordinator: $20-$25 hourly; $41,600 - $52,000 salary

Librarian: $22.12 - $29.81 hourly; $46,000 - $62,000 salary

40 hours per week

· Build relationships with area schools, committees, coalitions, boards, and service organizations that align with and further the library’s mission

· Seek out opportunities to present library services at speaking engagements and community events

· Identify opportunities for community outreach and coordinate library participation

· Coordinate and provide library programming beyond the library’s walls

· Report to and coordinate with the Library Director to ensure a cohesive message across all platforms and outreach efforts

· Manage the library’s social media accounts, creating and sharing content to promote the library’s mission, initiatives, programs, collections, and services

· Monitor trends in community engagement and social media, and experiment with ways to leverage the library’s in-person and online presence

· Write grants and work with community partners to raise funds for special projects

· Regularly generate reports and study the statistics regarding the effectiveness of the library’s, social media platforms, community engagement, and fundraising efforts

· Participate in strategic planning

· Other duties as assigned

Masters of Science in Library and Information Sciences from an ALA accredited school encouraged; related education and experience considered. Bachelor’s degree required. Additional education and experience preferred in areas such as communications, professional social media engagement, public speaking, community outreach and networking, team building, project management, or other experience resulting in the development of skills, knowledge, and attributes conducive to this position

This position’s title without an MLIS degree is “Coordinator.” The position’s title is “Librarian” with the MLIS degree. The Librarian position is posted at a higher pay scale.

Community collaboration will result in tangible work to create and sustain new programs, projects, and services. Much of this work will be accomplished by the Community Engagement and Development Coordinator/Librarian, while some may be distributed to other staff members under the advisement of the Library Director with input from the library’s administrative team. The person in this position must be able to navigate that shared workload.

Understanding what the library may be able to offer community partners requires:

· A strong understanding of the field of library science, library trends, and the roles public libraries play within their communities

· Awareness of societal trends, needs, and points of tension

· Big picture thinking, ambitious vision, and practical planning skills

Carrying out the duties of this position requires:

· Being a team builder and customer service leader who is highly organized and will consistently meet deadlines

· Fluency in Microsoft Office, social media platforms, and library databases

· The ability to navigate working relationships with internal and external colleagues and community partners

· The ability to lead from within, to guide collaborative work with respect, clarity, and enthusiasm regardless of hierarchical structures

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Requires flexibility to work day, evening, weekday, and weekend hours as needed

· Some local travel required
