About this Position
The Special Events Worker will work with a team to ensure the smooth operation of events at Arcadia Lake, specifically the Storybook Forest event. This event is presented by the City of Edmond’s Arcadia Lake and Edmond Electric department as a safe alternative to traditional trick or treating during the last weekend of October. Children and parents walk down a well-lit path in the woods and visit life-size scenes from classic storybooks to collect candy. (There are no ghouls, goblins, or other frightening elements, besides that which are present in classic children's stories.)
This event staff member job requires working during the event's hours, which are from 4:30 pm to 9:30 pm daily from October 23rd through the 30th. Additional hours may be available for set up each day of the event.
Qualifications
- At least 15 years of age
- Experience working with children or assisting with special events (preferred)
- Availability to work the entire event (October 23rd through the 30th)
Responsibilities
- Attend and participate in a training day during the week of October 11th
- Manage crowds of visitors effectively
- Communicate with families and children with kindness, diplomacy, and patience
- Assist with carnival style games and the hayride
- Hand out candy
- Read to visitors at the reading tent
- Serve food at the concession stand
- Manage traffic as a parking attendant
Necessary Skills
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Ability and willingness to work outdoors (potentially in rain or cold weather)
- Ability to stand for several hours at a time
- Ability to lift/carry objects up to 25 pounds
- Ability to meet the other required physical standards for this position
