What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Technician II - Extended Part Time position at City of Edina?
An Extended Part-Time employee is regularly scheduled to work at least 30 hours per week but fewer than 40 hours per week.
On a day-to-day basis, this position has the responsibility to repair and maintain buildings, training equipment, and facility grounds to ensure the uninterrupted availability of training equipment and systems.
The duties and responsibilities of this job are performed with latitude for independent judgment in accordance with Department and City Policies, Federal, State, and Local regulations and are based on the detailed knowledge of Department operations. Work is regularly reviewed by the supervisor, who provides input, and discusses assignments, priorities, and work. Work can affect the safety and appearance of facilities. This is a part-time position that will work approximately 28 hours per week.
• Strictly adhere to and enforce OSHA and EPA safety regulations, as well as municipal policies and procedures.
• Conduct monthly safety checks of chemical storage, AEDs, extinguishers, emergency exits, lighting, SDS, job safety hazards, eye wash stations, etc.
• Calibrate training equipment and systems to ensure operational readiness.
• Replace hazardous waste HVAC filters (both pleated and bag style) while fitted with personal protective equipment, including level D coveralls (Tyvek suit), gloves, and an air filtration mask.
• Maintain inventory of parts, filters, and other supplies necessary for operation, maintenance, and repair of training equipment and building systems, firing ranges, and police and fire simulators.
• Test air quality and surfaces using specialized equipment and submit samples for analysis; interpret results.
• Ensure that all entrances, exits, and sidewalks to buildings are clear of snow and ice and oversee the maintenance of grounds.
• Obtain and compare quotes for special projects.
• Maintain organized records of maintenance schedules, and other documentation related to repairs, OSHA and EPA standards, equipment updates, Job Hazard Analysis, and other job-related activities.
• Assist instructors with audio/visual and other presentation equipment.
• Assist the facilities director with day-to-day business operations, such as building access, security monitoring, and room set up and take down.
• Occasionally assist with room set-up and take down,

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid class D driver’s license.
- Experience with and knowledge of the operations of hand and power tools.
Desired qualifications:
- Knowledge of mechanical operation of firearms ranges and carrier systems.
- Knowledge of operations of fire simulators with rollover burners.
- Experience with boiler systems (preferred Special Engineer license or equivalent).

Job Requirements:
Physical effort is medium for much of the work, with lifting or carrying limits of 40 to 60 pounds. Approximately 20% of work is performed outside, where the employee is required to lift 40 up to 60 pounds on an occasional basis, may bend, lift, or crawl, climb ladders or stairs, in normal or inclement weather conditions, and may be exposed to toxic chemicals, and wears personal protective clothing and equipment. Report preparation and writing at times requires extended use of a keyboard. Work interruptions are frequent.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed both in and outdoors. The employee may work evenings, weekends, and holidays. The job may involve dealing with and calming individuals who are emotionally charged over an issue.
