The Eastpointe Police Department is currently accepting applications for Reserve Police Officers.  Reserve Police Officers are under the general supervision of a road patrol lieutenant and are responsible for providing police protection to the citizens, schools, and businesses of the City of Eastpointe. The Reserve Police Officer is a voluntary position; however, there are selected specialized details where the Reserve Police Officer will be compensated on an hourly basis. Each volunteer shall commit to the minimum required hours each month and attend monthly meetings and periodic training. The responsibilities of a Reserve Police Officer are that of a public servant position based on public trust, competency and integrity. A Reserve Police Officer assigned to this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following functions related to the City of Eastpointe. These examples do not include all duties of a Reserve Officer. To perform the position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. 

  1. Demonstrate a positive attitude and desire to be a public servant
  2. Provide assistance and respond to citizens requests for information
  3. Read and review departmental notices, publications and electronic data regularly
  4. Patrol the community in areas to deter criminal activity 
  5. Assigned to traffic control, parades, school security, parks, funerals, security at City owned buildings, special events and other activities nonviolent in nature
  6. Ordinance enforcement, report crimes and suspicious behaviors within the community 
  7. Perform other Reserve Police Officer related duties as assigned
Requirements include: 
  • Applicants must be 21 years of age or older and a U.S. Citizen 
  • Must possess a valid Michigan driver's license, with a good driving record
  • Have no criminal convictions for any serious misdemeanor or felony offenses 
  • Must have passed the Basic Reserve Officer Training Academy 
  • Must successfully complete the Reserve Police Field Training Program
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to use position related computer programs
  • Members are required to work at least 8 hours per month, in addition to occasional mandatory attendance at certain special events 
  • Must maintain proficiency with firearms used in the course of their assignments 
  • Shall comply with all training and qualification requirements set forth in their training programs 
  • Reserve officers shall successfully complete department-authorized training in the use of firearms.
  • Communicate effectively over law enforcement radio channels while initiating and responding to radio communications, often under adverse conditions such as siren usage and high-speed vehicle operation.
  • Communicates directly with people, giving information, directions and commands while listening effectively.
  • Reads and comprehends rules, regulations, policies, procedures and the law for purposes of ensuring appropriate officer behavior/response and performing enforcement activities involving the public.
  • Interacts and deals effectively with people from various social, ethnic and cultural backgrounds in a range of interpersonal situations, demonstrating appropriate courtesy and respect for individual rights.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee’s environment can range from an office setting to highly dangerous law enforcement situations.  Physical demands, therefore, range from sitting in an office or vehicle to exercising the strength, mobility, dexterity and stamina associated with apprehending criminals.  The employee is regularly required to communicate with others in person and on the telephone or radio, use sight to review documents and assess public safety scenes, and must regularly travel to other locations
