Custodian - Part Time
15-20 hours per week
5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
$17/Hour – No Benefits
Job Description: Under the direction of the supervisors of the Division of Public Buildings, the Custodian – Part Time performs routine building custodial duties, including light and heavy cleaning.
General Responsibilities: A Custodian performs the following, but is not limited to:
- Sweeping, dusting, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, and waxing the floors and walls of halls, offices, and rooms.
- Operating heavy industrial buffers or scrubbers.
- Cleaning plumbing fixtures and washrooms.
- Stocking washrooms with soap and other necessary supplies.
- Moving furniture and other equipment.
- Cleaning sidewalks, performing lawn and gardening maintenance.
- Clearing sidewalks of snow and ice
- Operating the boilers for a small heating plant.
- Providing minor repairs to buildings and equipment.
- Painting.
- Washing windows.
- Changing light bulbs.
- Vacuuming.
- Emptying wastebaskets.
- Maintaining a general watch over buildings and offices.
- Setting up events.
- Other duties as required.
Desirable Abilities, Knowledges, And Skills:
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to use cleaning tools and operate cleaning equipment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with members of the public and other employees.
- Knowledge of modern building cleaning methods.
- Flexibility in availability to meet division staffing needs.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift objects weighing (50) fifty pounds.
- Ability to move heavy equipment or furniture.
- Sufficient strength to use hammers and wrenches for general maintenance.
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs.
- Successful candidates may be subject to a pre-employment physical exam.
Candidate will be required to pass a BCI (Criminal Investigation) as well as a physical, back and drug screen.
